Description Richard Gere....I hope you can tell- at least it is someone from *now* this time . I was watching 'The Runaway Bride', and decided he had funky hair, so I drew him. I do draw on impulse like that sometimes..... I haven't seen him in many movies, so it was a little difficult to capture him. I'm pretty happy with it though, but I might go back and refine it a little more.

Derwent and Prismacolour pencils, border fixed in Photoshop.

Please tell me what you think.

Oh, and please don't flame me for drawing him- I have *already* been told "how sad I am" ... so I don't need to be told again, 'k?

I love this one. The skin and hair is so nicely done. I always have trouble with skin - it ends up too dark most of the time. Great work!! I'm so looking forward to seeing new deviations from you! So i command you to draw !!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to rollagasper [2005-08-16 14:42:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much! With skin, I start with the lightest colours, and work darker, making areas darker if the shadows make parts look washed out. Then I blend everything with a white pencil, and redo the shadows. That helps to keep things smooth, and adds some lightness too.
And I *am* drawing! Lots! I just have a lot of pictures on the go at the moment. Currently I am working on Christopher Eccleson, almost finished, so that will be uploaded very soon!

that's funny - i blend colours with a white pencil too! I'm not alone! They have colour blenders that come in pencils but i'm too cheap to actually buy them.

Heh, I'm not too cheap....they are just another of the things that they don't seem to sell here...

Thanks! The hair was the main reason for my drawing this! I just thought it looked interesting, and wanted to try grey hair in colour.

lol ^_^ ph34r it! its one of my fave films. You've done a really good job - i hate using coloured pencils when doing realism

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Alene In reply to Carmelward [2005-02-18 14:50:11 +0000 UTC]

I should use coloured pencil more often, but they are harder to tote around with me, and I draw on the go a lot- white/grey hair is much easier in colour (as I am just discovering )
I quite liked Chicago too- I love musicals.

It is amazing the responses I get for this picture! While I was drawing it, I was surrounded by people muttering along the lines of 'you're drawing richard gere? Why? He's old.", and once I finished, people who adore him came out of the woodwork. And to think I just sat up one day, and thought: I think I'll draw Richard Gere!

Wow, this is really awesome! And colored pencils are more difficult than regular, but you did a fantastic job. All your stuff is very good, actually, it's a wonder you don't have more pageviews/watchers. I think I'm going to you.

Alene In reply to basketcase04 [2004-09-20 09:59:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I used a Derwent portraiture set, and it didn't seem too hard...probably becuase I had the colours I needed, rather than the usual bright ones you get....but I love coloured pencils anyway, so I think I am more predisposed to try very hard at them
And I'm pretty new, only been here a few months, so thanks for the watch!

This is so fantastic! Your work is amazing, but this one is my favourite. You can see how long this must've taken you, the number of layers of colours you've used is wonderful, it looks really really good. I always find skin hard to colour realistically, and you've done it really well.

I love coloured pencil, but school makes it soooo hard to do them...so I tend to stay with Graphite. But now I am all "coloured pencil, YAY" again. I really shouldn't have done this pic, I think. Now I am going to have trouble studying...
