Nope, I had used sleeping powder or something with the last Pokemon and the Venusaur had like a few pixels of life left and Poliwag was the only Pokemon I had left so I just kept using Double Slap on him and he never woke up so finally I took down all his health. My Poliwag leveled up like 15 times in a row as a result.

and I was afraid that I didn't have proof it happened cuz right after that battle with my rival, I had to go on to the final FINAL battle and lost obviously cuz all I had was a Poliwag, but since you can't really die in Pokemon, I just wound up back at a Pokecenter or whatever they're called and brought things back to life so my Pokemon are still in the Hall of Fame in Leaf Green and that Poliwag is still there! She was recorded somewhere around level 20 and right now she's around level 50 as a Poliwhirl and I'm gonna try seeing if I can get her into a Politoad someday.

I'll always remember my vaporeon and how he saved my skin in the last battle of fire red.
He had his hp in the red, and all my pokemon where dead already (even my dragonite)
I just prayed that vaporeon hit that charizard with an hydro pump and well... he missed
"Well sh*t" i said, then charizard attacked and... he missed too?
I started to pray for Jesus, Arceus and Celestia so that vaporeon managed to hit him, and he did!
I never felt so much relief after that. Vaporeon is love

I was mostly a fire trainer but I sympathize with the grass starters because I feel they were always overshadowed by the fire and water types.
I did one playthrough of Gold with a Chikorita however and I was amazed how strong Razor Leaf was after he reached higher levels.

Through all my years of watching Pokemon (like any kid back then did), I always hoped if there would be like a spinoff series focusing JUST on the Pokemon, with each of them having their own personality and such. But no, best we had was like one episode where they like talk to each other in a subtitled language

oh you're asking in general, i thought you meant which grass type XP, from the starters i would say Charizard or Typhlosion. they're good pokemon stat wise but they overshadow almost all other fire types of those gens
