Description
The first thing he noticed was her hair. It fell in impossible waves all the way to the ground, glossy black and enticing and the urge to lip at a little of it, to see if it was as smooth as it looked was almost overpowering.
The second thing, a day later, was her eyes. Already striking against the white of her face, they were heavily lidded and a luminous shade of sky blue. She frowned at him as he nosed around the pasture, but her eyes, when he caught her gaze, were thoughtful and maybe a little amused, twinkling at the corners with a joke she didn't feel like sharing.
He badly wanted to be let in on it.
It took three weeks before they exchanged more than five words beyond their first, unfortunate meeting, which was when he noticed her voice. It was sweet and low but a little rough, the after-effects of yelling until being hoarse was the way of life. It was intriguing because it didn't fit her, that gentle rasp that was a little too raw for the rest of her flawless image.
The scars became apparent after that, visible because a surprise rainstorm had soaked them both. Coat drenched flat the raised lines across her chest and legs were suddenly put into stark relief, another jagged edge that didn't fit into his mental map of her.
His curiosity was now insatiable. Although she had become almost notoriously good at avoiding him he finally cornered her as they were both being tacked up. Her ears went back when he scrutinized her, but her face strove for open and friendly, a mask of bland female that he'd already gotten used to looking past.
"You've got a hell of a lot of scars for a show pony." He went for blunt broke, hoping to surprise a genuine reaction out of her, but she didn't as much as blink.
"You've got a hell of a lot of nerves for the newbie on the farm. Keep your head down and maybe we'll let you back out alive." Her handler tugged the lead rope and she swayed past him, not sparing a second glance.
"You can eat me up any day, gorgeous!" Hawkeye called after her cheerfully. "Hate to see you go, love to watch you leave!"

Resubmission because, as I said in the original, this piece was actually intended to go here all along, and I don't have the time to draw up something new (plus it would never be as awesome).
I wanted to get both these pieces up the same day because their stories go back to back. Don't expect the next to come as quickly |D

Original description:
Did the lineart digitally as a shoulder test but just couldn't handle coloring it, so I decided to go old school and watercolor. Killed the background horribly, but I love how Aris came out! So much so, in fact, that I just can't hold off on sharing this. It's supposed to be much later in a certain story line but I can't wait that long.

Feedback/watercolor crit is much appreciated, I want to play around with this medium more in the future.
