Somewhat inspired by Evanescence's "Lies".. My original conception was to illustrate somewhat of a gilded birdcage.. Highly decorated and beautiful, but serving to trap the soul inside.. And also to play with the transparency and opaqueness of both the cage and the girl to give the feeling of being partially ensnared and in the process of escaping at the same time..
The process I used involved lots of chaos involved in a chaotic, free, and unthinking drips, splatters, paint scraping on the bottom layer, and a careless choice of colors.. Then I basically tightened everything up on top of it, solidifying it into a more concrete image..
The lies that form the gate read:
"I am not loved.
I do not deserve respect.
I am a bad person.
I do not need to love myself.
I need someone else to complete me.
I will never be good enough.
It's only human nature.
God is so far away.
I do not deserve love.
I am ugly."
And the line underneath my signature is "Amor Vincit Omnia"..
