what did you paint from? do you use a photograph? also do you start by toning the canvas with a colour or is it just applied straight onto the white canvas?

Due to the fact that I rarely browse paintings there are very few (if any) in my favourites. This one truly impressed me because it looks so realistic and it made me think it's a photo.
