There are few things to fear more, than the Trapeden. These beasts reside in the void, and devour all who enter the place of sand. They were not always like this, however.
Long ago these dog like, and God like creatures known as the Keepers of Time walked among the living. They kept balance and made sure to dispose of any who threatened it. They took the form of any dog breed that existed, but their coats made them unique. They wore a tan coat, with markings of dark brown. It was their uniform, and they wore it proudly. Their eyes were a light purple, yet another sign of their race.
One day their queen gathered all her people for a meeting. Young and old surrounded Mitahba as she spoke of an uprising. She told her followers that it had been long enough that they had served the gods. She was tired of being their pet, and obeying them. Mitahba filled the hearts of her loyal people with hate, and envy.
It was not long before they made an attack upon the gods. The battle was short lived, as the gods were too powerful, and they were outraged. Ishtai herself looked upon the queen of time, with a great sadness in her golden eyes, then spoke.
"I trusted you all to keep balance and you have betrayed me. This traitorous act will not go unpunished. Mitahba, I banish you and your people to the place of sand. The void shall ever be your domain. You are no longer worthy to walk among the living, and a curse will follow you into the void" the Queen lifted her head and gave a single huff as her people walked toward the dark path which lead to the place of sand.
"I will destroy you, the place of light will burn! And you will burn with it..." Those were the last words she uttered before walking into the darkness, and never again seeing the light. Her people were devastated, and soon a sickness began to overtake them. Their coats were stained with black, and their pupils turned white. They drooled constantly, but it was purple, like their eyes. Their noses ran, and tears of the same purple poured from their eyes. Even their paw pads changed color. The disease was not only on the outside, but the inside as well.
They spoke only of a never ending hunger, and tried to eat the sand that surrounded them. When that didn't work, they turned on one another. Then one day a new soul had slipped into the void. The hounds did not hesitate to rip it apart, until only the eyes remained. And from the eyes, and sand, a new hound was born.
Mitahba watched horrified as her people did this, again and again. And as time passed her coat, eyes, and paw pads changed as well. The difference with her was despite having the same hunger, she was aware of what she did, half her body still bore her natural colors. She killed, and ate the souls of many, but regretted it every single time. It was the punishment Ishtai had spoken of. To this day, many thousands of years later, the Trapeden still reside in the void, awaiting hungrily for a new soul to land in their jaws.
