Nice costume, however, my critique on the photography and posing is negative: The model seems somewhat uninterested and bored. like " ok ill put my hand here and here, take the shot, ok next pose". as in, she looks like she's trying to model. sorry, a few subtle differences would make this shot more natural and infinitely better overall. As a stock photo, the pose is key, and this one just doesn't cut it, in my opinion , of coarse

The background is too busy to be used as stock

The background is not to busy to cut the model out for manipulations and for traditional artists it is pretty irrelevant. The edges of the model are well defined and do not blend into the background at all. You could extract her via the pen tool or a mask. There are plenty of tutorials here on dA if you need help. What makes this "special" is subjective. Apparently *LadyEvilArts and ^Elandria thought artists might like it. As an artist myself, I do. Obviously, by the comments, others do as well.

So, "special" is basically equivalent to "some artists might like it?"
I think "special" as to be "stands out above the rest," "genre-defying," and "revolutionary." Basically this to me is like giving one of Hitler's paintings a worldwide award for groundbreakingly amazing work. And yes, I am a steampunker. So, hate me as much as you like for me not being impressed, but I am still not very impressed.

Art is subjective. I personally think Andy Warhol's work is utter rubbish whereas many fawn all over it spending thousands to own a specimen. I don't tell galleries and collectors that his art is not worthy of a showcase just because of my opinion. Just because you are "unimpressed" with this stock photo doesn't mean others aren't impressed or find it worthy of a one day feature. Same thing applies to your Hitler example.
With a community as huge as deviantART there WILL be things that do not live up to your high standards, many of which will receive a Daily Deviation feature! Sorry, but that is a fact!

Stock is usually unedited so that's probably why she didn't edit it out; that way artists have more control on what is done. If this was posted on an art/photography acct she'd probably edit it.
