One of the most successful predators around.
Funnily enough peregrines are so specialized for killing other birds in the air that they rarely go after grounded targets (something other large falcons do all the time) and must flush sitting prey into the air to make a kill. A common defence for shorebirds and waterfowl is to sit tight and ignore a peregrine, since in an aerial chase the falcon has a good chance of winning.
