Description This is actually dedicated to the deaf community you could say..
story behind it is I know a deaf girl named Tiffany and I did an autobiography on her for our school autobiography project. We were partners and the project included having to do an image to represent the person.. so I asked her if she had any ideas. She actually came up with the ide of me doing a portrait and taking out the mouth. I guess thats how she feels..
which is sad. She's a really great person and I wish I knew sign language so I could talk to her more in person.

Here's the link to the original photo I put up on my stock account:

And to add some craziness... I like these emoticons:

I work with deaf people, I have deaf friend and my boyfriend is deaf. Some deaf person can speak. A deaf-mute does not exist, it's an old term and a fake. They say deaf, not deaf-mute. This picture is beautiful, but I don't think the title is good. Maybe juste ''mute'', but not ''deaf''.

It's a very poignant image. A lot of Deaf people are treated as though they are dumb (either meaning mute or stupid) too. It's totally unreasonable, but it happens all the time. I know some wonderfully intelligent Deaf people who are treated like lepers because they can't speak.
There's bound to be a sign language community class somewhere in your area. It's definitely worth learning.

seeing as I can't lip-read (which is just plain annoying), this is pretty much what it's like for me, when people try to talk.

i come from a deaf family and i dont think this picture while beautiful acurately depicts deaf culture or deafness because i know plenty of deaf people who while cant here have full operation of their voice my mom who is almost completely deaf can talk just as well as the next person and has no evidence of a so called "deaf accent" not trying to be a bitch about the picture just thought i would point that out

Why'd you take out the mouth when it's supposedly a deaf person? Not being able to speak is technically the term, 'dumb'.

Some deaf can speak orally, but most don't because the lessons are so repetitive :C

thats such a haunting picture. The slight shadows under the eyes really give it a melancholy feel.

almayatic rocks.
i like that the skin over the mouth looks thin and... like the inside of the mouth is trying to get out. looks trapped and the eyes are slightly panicing...

i LOVE this emoticon too

oo, I like this. I'm taking ASL right now and this is a pretty damn good representation of how I, as a hearing person, feel a good amount of the time--in and out of class, whenever I'm trying to communicate with those who are far more proficient with the language. I have the words, and know what I want to say, but there is that barrier...very nice work.

i love this. its deep, its raw and most of all and most importantly -its real. its something some people really feel and have to deal with. this holds real meaning and true emotion which you do a good job of portraying. i like the choice of no makeup, it gives it a trapped and stifled feel and it focuses more attention to the blue of your eyes which causes you to really look at the eyes and how emotionless they almost seem. ..hope you get what im saying, but i really love this picture and i vote yes for placing this in your main gallery.

Well gosh... I didnt think it was that good. Haha.. thank you so much... everything you just said is like.. wow.
Maybe I will put it up over there and see what happens. I'm glad it has meaning to it also, because with her idea I wasn't sure how to portray a feeling in the photo, so I just went with it and did it without really thinking. I just took a plain photo of myself a while after I'd showered so thats why theres no makeup. Thanks again for the fantastic comment!

no problem, i think anyone in a situation like your friend would appreciate it. i have a cousin that is deaf, so i atleast know a bit of sign language and if not wed just use little notes... and its hard seeing someone who is forced to deal with something like that and how strong they must be to do it on a daily basis.

Yeah, we write in notes or we talk online...which is a lot easier. Not only is she deaf, but I know she suffered some abuse as a child... I admire her for that. Sometimes she'll giggle and it's real cute, makes me wonder what her voice would sound like. I might take sign language after highschool at the community college for fun.

ill just go ahead and say youre a rare kind, just because most people dont find appreciation in people who go through stuff like they... they just 'throw them in the trashbin' so to speak, cuz theyre different. and its sad, it just happens to often. its good to see someone else that can appreciate people even if they are just a little bit different

that would be cool and definitely worth it, my cousin really appreciated i took the time to learn any at all just for her and its worth the little smiles you get because something so small could mean so much to someone else

Well thanks.. hehe.. I know I can be a heartless bitch sometimes... but people who are less fortunate than me I always try and respect and treat them as an equal. its cool that you know some sign language.

oh and btw, I'm gonna put a link in the description to the original photo [I just put it into my stock account]
