My whole life was dedicated to gymnastics, ever since I could remember all I wanted to do was go to the olympics. I didn't care if I placed or earned a medal (although that would have been the icing on the cake) I just wanted to be counted among the world's best. Unfortunately I wasn't that good, not that I wasn't great, I just wasn't good enough for the olympics. After failing to make my dream a reality, I was crushed. I spent the next few months doing the goth thing, my grades suffered badly but I just couldn't get out of my funk. Two things changed that; my parents wouldn't let me get my driver's liscence until my grades improved and my boyfriend Donald.

It was a cloudy day in April, I had just come home from the DMV with my license in hand and Donald was sitting there on the porch waiting for me. He had promised me that if I passed he'd take me out to my favorite resteraunt. With my parent's permission we left (I was driving) and the world had just seemed to open up to me. There was more to life than the Olympics.

We went out to eat (I ordered the Lobster) and during our meal I looked over at Donald, I was so in love with him. We were getting ready to leave when I picked up my cellphone and called home.

"Dad" I said "Don's gonna take me to a movie, so I'll be about two hours later than expected...maybe three." My father gave his usual grumble but gave me permission. I hung the phone up and I remember the look on Donald's face, he looked like a hurt puppy.

"What's wrong?" I asked

He gave me the most apologetic look and I couldn't help but to think how cute he was "Movies?" he said "Jess, after this meal I only got about three bucks to my name until..."

I stopped him mid sentence "I just told my dad that silly." then I looked deep in his dark brown eyes "Don...do you love me?"

He smiled when I asked him but his answer came quickly "Jessie I love you so much it should be illegal. What's wrong?"

I don't know what he was thinking but his face went from happy to overly serious in a second until I answered.

"I want to." I said.

"You want to what?" he was even more afraid now.

"I want to...you know...I want you to..." I could tell by the look on his face that he finally got it.

"Are you sure?" he asked "I know how much you wanted to wait until we got married."

"I'm sure but we gotta get protection I don't want to get pregnant."

We drove downtown to a local drugstore to get the...protection, it was dark already and I could see him clearly in the store, he looked so nervous when he went to the register. Finally he came out, he was smiling, giving me the thumbs up sign when I noticed that the sky looked like it was mid afternoon. That's the last thing I remember.

I woke up and I was in the hospital. My father sitting in a chair beside my bed. I was in pain and I let a high pitched scream when I woke. My father woke up immeadiatly and ran to my side. I was trying to get out of bed but my legs wouldn't listen to me.

I had been in a coma for two months. Two post humans were fighting way above our town and the "good" guy got the upper hand and landed a lucky punch. The villain's body burned like the sun as it hit the atmosphere and struck the drugstore. Seventy-four people died that day, including Donald. I was "lucky" but explosion had blasted the car across the street, my spinal cord was severed and I had suffered some other serious injuries.

I couldn't walk.

I missed Donald's funeral.

Yet the only thing I could think of was how it was my fault....mine and the so called superheroes. I woke up just in time for graduation...I didn't go, I didn't want to see anyone, but someone wanted to see me.

That's when they approached me, the Post-Human Strike Force, normally called the PXF (think about it). They offered me the chance to walk again and to ensure that these post-humans didn't do to others what they did to me and Don. I was Seventeen.

That was three years ago. Now everyday, I recieve a serious of painful injections into my spine that take about an hour to adminster. Tiny robots...nanobots are delivered to my blood and brain via my spinal cord. Not only can I walk but my body with these bots in me is stronger and faster, my mind quicker, the only draw back...after twenty four hours they run out of juice, if left in my body for another twenty four hours they'll kill me, the first series of shots I recieve remove the old nanobots, the second replaces them, cost to the tax payer...seven thousand dollars a day. The cost to me...I'm owned by the goverement along with twenty six others recieving similar treatments, to me it's a very small price to pay for the ability to walk and another shot at revenge.
