I don't know what to say. xDD I attempted to use Sai for the first time, which ultimately lead to a lot of frustration and artwork that I'm not really sure even... looks... good...Yeah I have no idea. So why don't you guys let me know if it sucks or not? I'd like to know whether I should bother every trying to use Sai again or if I should just stick to flash...

I don't know... Sai just gave me so much greif. like the way it hades but it just doesn't work for me like it does for some people and I like the clearcut edges and bright solid colours of flash... why can't someone combine those programs? ;A;

You're right, I'm using the second one but it's not the colour I'm having issues with, it's the shading and layers. I don't know how to make things look like other people's do. xDD orz

with the layer options.
the three check boxes that are on the top of the layers
perserve opacity: locks the layers
clip group: this is what i use for shading. with that once you are done your base shade, you'd open up a new layer above the base layers, then check that box. on the layer you'll get a red line beside it.
and what this'll do is you'll be able to shade where the base color is only, it won't go out of the base color. VERY usefull!
unfortunatly if you wanted to put shading into that shade, you'd have to lock the layer.
and honestly i have no idea what selected source checkbox does :U
but yeaaaa.
And with shading i find that the marker tool (you'll have to play around with the advanced setting of the brush) works great with the watercolor brush and blur tool. those are the main ones i use

Okay. Preserve opacity does not lock the layers AT ALL. xDD I had to make a folder to stick all my 'locked layers' into in order to get them to stay put as I edjusted the tint of one of the layers. It was so frustrating you have no idea. I mean who makes a program where you can't even lock layers properly? Fuck. XDDD
The only tool I could get to shade without making everything look like complete ass was blur. I still don't understand how people do this at all. It's a shame my college never taught me how to use sai. Then again, they taught me how to use photoshop and I still think that program sucks balls for making art in. I mean, for making edits, yeah, it's fine, but for drawing in? Hell no.
Also I don't use a tablet. I dunno if that matters but my friend said it did when using Sai. >.>;;;;

ya. the perserve layer thing LOL YAAAAA its not 'ACTUAL' lock. but uhh. forgot what tehy call it in photoshop :U
and yes. tablets are required for sai. or else you wont get the same effects. and there is no stabilizer or anything for the mouse. sooooooooo. yeahh. your probably best off with photoshop if you are using mouse.

XDD I hate photoshop and never use it. (except for effects like transparency) I use flash. :3 Maybe once I am settled into my new place and such I will do some research into getting a tablet I actually LIKE.

No man. They're awful. Everytime I draw a line it comes out as a super squiggly pubic hair... I threw them in the garbage, that's how they died. I can draw more smoothly with a mouse then they can...

lines work as motherfuckin miracles.
with photoshop they are squiggly and gross because there barely is a stabilizer on the program.
with sai, there is a stabilizer, you can determine how smooth you want your lines to be.

I think I gave them away or just left them behind on one of my many moves. They are probably still kicking around but I have no desire to look for them.
Anyway. I might look into getting a tablet later when I'm settled down.
But it won't be bamboo.
