Derek – Thistle

As a plant, thistle’s beauty can’t be seen before it blossoms.

The same goes for Derek – before we find out what his reasons is, we’ll never fully understand him.

General meanings of the thistle are challenge, revenge, retribution; asceticism; misanthropy.

Derek comes back to the town and finds out his sister is severely murdered. He seeks for revenge, and there’s Scott, bitten by the Alpha, who hates his new life, and it’s a challenge for Derek – to not only convince the boy the bite is a gift, but also to teach him how to survive. Knowing Scott, it’s not that easy. It’s worth mentioning, that Derek still lives in a half-ruined house, and sometimes hides at the abandoned station. Needless to say, he hates himself for not being able to turn back time and be there for his family. From that point, he also hates people: they can betray, they can make you trust them, and they’ll kill you. It takes a lot to develop slightly peaceful relationship with kids – Scott, Jackson and Stiles. Especially Stiles, who’s not scared of him anymore.
