Submitted for the Teitho July 2016 Challenge, "Brothers".There are so many brothers in Arda that I like, and I always thought this pair, Angrod and Aegnor, don't get enough love. Even though they usually mentioned as a pair, despite not being twins! Aegnor is mostly beloved by the fandom for his love for Andreth but Angrod? ... so little.
And yes, that is Glaurung in the bottom left background...
This was a difficult piece for me and I wondered several times why I was bothering. First, I couldn't find any pose references for the brothers, so a lot had to be from imagination. Then, I struggled with the fire on the flag. Then, I made it way too gory and then got nervous wondering what would constitute mature content, so I cleaned the two bros up. In the end, Glaurung proved the easiest thing to paint.
I'm not terribly happy with how it turned out, but here it is, warts and all - Aegnor and Angrod during the Battle of the Sudden Flame, Anfauglith and Thangorodrim in the background. Aegnor's name means "fell fire" (or "sharp flame"), hence the title.

I'm really really happy you like it - but I guess it's just that it isn't how I hoped it would look. My skills are not that good yet so I'm a bit frustrated.
This is the first dragon I've ever drawn, and I'm so amused that people think him cute!! Well, I did tuck him away in the corner & didn't put any effort into making him huge and fearsome, so it's no surprise

I must admit that I barely remembered Angrod, maybe because there was so few information about him? We had so much diverse characters in the Silmarillion that at least I remember those who died in the most tragic way, suffered terrible or committed the words crimes. Angrod was ... I know how it sounds but for my "just another elf from the house of Finwe, difficult to recall them all" The wonderful pictures as those by you can help us to remember them for something..
Glaurung looks a little too "friendly" too me, he is not scary at least in my opinion but on the other hand beauty can be the best deception.

LOL, I know you are right about Glaurung - my first dragon, and I didn't try to make him scary enough, which is why he's this little thing in the background... he should be in-your-face terrifying and not deceptive, so let's hope any future dragons I draw turn out more monstrous!
I remember Angrod chiefly because I like the House of Finarfin, but really the second son is mostly a cipher (apart from being sent to Doriath by Finrod shortly after the Noldor come to Beleriand, and trying to cover up the kinslaying when he spoke to Thingol).

He looks as the baby dragon, but it is not bad for start. I recalled the House of Finarfin thanks to Galadriel, but it was difficult for me to remember them all. Galadriel is among my favourites. I liked Finrod and obviously Aegnor but Angrod.. he was poor to be least known among siblings.

I feel sorry that Angrod is remembered even less than his brother because he have no tragic love-story
