Description I give not one fuck if this ever gets faved by anybody. As much as this movie may have diverted from the book (which wasn’t very often, but it cut quite a bit to make it fit into an approximate two hour time frame that left quite a few plot holes that only an avid reader would be able to fill) I absolutely adored Matthew MacFadyen as Mr. Darcy. This one moment in particular, though very different from how it occurred in the book (which I’m reading for the… second or third time this year), is just so… unf, I guess is the only way I can describe it in my beyond-exhausted, bleary eyed state. So… enjoy probably the most frustrating scene in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice. x__x

Buuuut then he doesn't and you want to throw the remote at the TV. I was SO annoyed, but the director was brilliant for doing it this way, regardless. AAHHH IT'S SO FRUSTRATING THOUGH.

This no-kiss is so perfect and sad, and his eyes!!!!.... I need to see the movie right away! I adore him and his Mr Darcy is my Mr Darcy, is just like I always imagine to Pemberley's Master

He really is utterly perfect. I mean, Laurence Olivier and Colin Firth have their place as Mr. Darcy, no doubt. But I ultimately think I prefer Matthew MacFadyen... though I'm still not entirely sure.

Yep, my favourite Mr. Darcy by far. Look at those eyes!

Unf, yes. Though my grandmother raves about Laurence Olivier, so I have to check that one out too. Who knows, maybe it'll end up being a tie for me. Right now, though: Matthew MacFadyen, no doubt about it. ^__^

He's just so... melancholy and mysterious. Impossible to resist, really. I haven't seen the Laurence Oliver one, but based on pictures of the film, he looks really handsome. Actually, more handsome than MacFayden. But then MacFayden has this thing, as you said, he gave Darcy his own spin. Which makes him unique.

Welp, I'll find out just how good Olivier is tonight once the family leaves. I got the Olivier version, the Colin Firth mini-series, and the two-disc special edition of the MacFadyen version. I'm going to explode from excitement.

Well, first, I'm going to watch the one I know best (MacFadyen), because I haven't seen the scene with Georgiana since my original DVD got scratched Q_Q But I'll try to do a journal post of some sort on it Once I spend all of tomorrow watching all of them. ^_^

This moment is absolutely great, the film is great and Matthew MacFadyen as Mr. Darcy is awesome.
I know about this "Darcy's holly war", but as for me...
Colin Firth's infernal stare scared me from the first moment I saw him in P&P mini series. Each time Darcy-Firth looked at Elizabeth, I had a sense that he was going to put an evil curse on her, instead of trying to hide his attraction and desire... and MacFadyen's quit admire, which scared him, caused him so much confusion... How he punished himself each time he could not resist this feelings. As for me this is much more emotional and heartfelt.

AmandaKitswell In reply to Okroshkam [2011-12-05 19:13:18 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I think every Darcy has brought his own twist to the role, and I adore every last one of them. My grandmother adores Laurence Olivier from the 1940 movie, and we get into lively debates over our differences in opinion. I think she likes having a granddaughter who fell as much in love with Jane Austen as she did, to be perfectly honest. But I agree, as much as I love Colin Firth, his Mr. Darcy was slightly scary, though I'd need to sit through the entire mini-series to be sure. I think Matthew MacFadyen will always remain my favorite, though.

He-h
Mr. Darcy\Matthew MacFadyen is the only one character me and my grandmother could not argue. We can debate about Jane Eyre, Guy Williams\Antonio Banderas as Zorro (I like the old one version with Guy Williams and my grandmother adores Antonio Banderas), about Capt. Jack Sparrow, Chanel spring\summer 2012 collection... but not about 2005 movie version Mr. Darcy)

My grandmother hasn't seen the new Pride & Prejudice. Once I get a copy that isn't scratched and unplayable in anything but a blu-ray player, I'm going to show her and I'll be damned if she doesn't fall just as hard for Matthew MacFadyen as I have.

I agree with you. Who dosen't like Matthew MacFadyen he is perfect in this movie, it's weird to see him playing other caracters. When i saw the mini series Little Dorrit, i almost had to close mye eyes every time he appeared at the screen.

This was the first movie I'd seen him in, and since haven't watched another. I don't know if I can, though one of my friends has been raving about him since I posted a Facebook status about being in love with him. I have a feeling I'm going to be hoodwinked into watching every Matthew MacFadyen movie ever.

If this movie had taken place in modern time, he very likely would have. The impropriety of it is probably what kept him from doing it.

I love the 2005 movie version a lot! I've yet to read the book. So I join you in being addicted to the story and loving Darcy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AmandaKitswell In reply to 4evaAFanGirl [2011-12-06 19:26:14 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you must read the book. There's so much, I'm ashamed to admit, that the movie left out, and even changed around. Nothing too drastic as to change the story, but the setting of a lot of conversations was changed to the vision of the director, rather than what Austen had originally wrote. So go read it! You'll love it!

4evaAFanGirl In reply to AmandaKitswell [2011-12-07 00:01:13 +0000 UTC]

You will adore it. And probably end up watching the movie for more instant gratification every time you get to a part of the book that's a little bit harder to stomach.
