what did you use to paint them?

Hi! First I sanded the boots using small pieces of fairly coarse sandpaper and sanded them down until the surface had a suede-like appearance. For primer and paint I used the same brand as the top coat Design Master Colortool Spray. They just have a specific primer. And I used Holiday Green for the main green colour. For the sealer I used something that I found in my basement, the brand was Krylon. There might be a Colortool sealer which would probably work well with the paints as well.
Other than that all I can say is that you just need to lightly coat the surface with primer (it doesn't need to be made completely white/grey). And then apply the paint in very thin layers, which will help to prevent the surface from cracking longer.

Hi, I'm not sure if you're still interested in knowing this but here is how I made these boots:

Finding the boots was a struggle. Eventually I found a pair at a store called Payless Shoes. But I searched every store in the area, looked online on every site I could find and it took probably five months of searching to eventually find them.

Jeez! Thats a long time. Unfortunately for me, tis now summer, so not many boots will be going around. Sigh. But i do have a payless around here!

Howdo you do it in thin layers? Did you spray it on once and not overlap?
π: 0 β©: 1
amariel In reply to AnnaKlava [2011-08-28 23:11:46 +0000 UTC]
Yes, don't worry about covering it all on one go. Just lightly mist over the area a few times, let it dry and then repeat until you have it fully covered. It's difficult to resist overs rating but it does help prevent some cracking and drips.

Thanks! I had the same problem when trying to find boots for Jupiter, so I decided I was find boots that looked like hers regardless of the color and then try my best to make them green.
I used this brand of floral spray paint: [link]

Thank you! I used floral spray (Design Master Colortool Spray) which I picked up from Michaels for about $10.
Link to the product: [link]
I haven't worn them very much yet, but the colour has been holding up without cracking so far.

amariel In reply to DexAntares [2009-08-19 21:25:53 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! It was a lot of work that involved sanding and priming them first.

DexAntares In reply to amariel [2009-08-19 21:26:55 +0000 UTC]
That makes sense... so you have to prime them, then dye them?

amariel In reply to DexAntares [2009-08-19 21:31:28 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I used a spray primer and floral spray paint afterwards. And then followed that up with a spray sealer.
