Description My second ever fanart... >_>

I've loved Asbel's diminutive yet deadly gunship ever since I first saw Kaze no Tane no Nausicaa in the early nineties... so today, faced with a lack of inspiration and a dead spot inbetween work, I decided to draw it.

As anybody who's payed close attention to Miyazaki's graphic novel Nausicaa knows, things he draws change proportions and such from panel to panel, so coming up with a "definitive" version of Pejite's gunship wasn't easy.

Original 6.5x4", graphite (0.3mm mechanical pencil (B) and HB Derwent pencil) on 100lb bristol. ~4 hours, maybe a little more.

I've thought of a name for that type of gunship. The Pejite Skyhound-class Gunship. Does that sound fast and fierce?

Awesome work. I'm doing a "fan comic" based on the world of Nausicaa. Do you mind if I use your version of Asbel's gun ship in it? Please let me know.

I love the shadings. Can't believe you drew it with pencils. A CG couldn't do better.

Heh, I watched in japanese (with no subtitles) the first several times I saw it too.

Thanks!

Too funny. When I first saw this piece, it immediately reminded me of a favorite old anime' I haven't seen in decades. It was called "Warriors of the Wind" and I belive that it's what is now (and probably more accurately) known as "Nausicaa." Mission accomplished.
I absolutely love your style. Keep it up!
Namaste

Yeah, "Warriors of the Wind" was in fact the result of somebody stealing Nausicaa, dubbing it badly, cutting it to pieces and reassembling it while leaving a lot out and changing all the names. That was the first form I saw Nausicaa in as well.

Wow! HBO played the hell out of it. Hmm... Naughty, naughty!
Now I'm going to HAVE to see Nausicaa!
Thanks!

I guess it was hard for Miyazaki to draw the gunships and cruisers and such in almost every panel... I haven't read the novel, but i read the digitally remastered animation version... >.> good emphasis-based shadings... dunno if that is gonna be similar to the real shades, but the artists shade in a way so they make it dimensional and stuff... meh, close enough... it shouldn't be that perfect anywayz ^^

This is really only a glorified sketch anyways.

Yup, continuity is hard. I have to draw full plans for every ship and such in my comics to make sure I draw them the same each time, and it's a real pain sometimes!
