I know it can be really hard :< But I promise, with practice, it really becomes easier ^^ I used to spend days trying to perfect the eye shapes, but now I can work so much faster because my hand just got used to it, lol.
Thanks, dear, I wish you luck!

I really hope so!
how long have you been repainting monster high dolls? I mean when did you started for the first time?
and I think I already asked this, but you use just the watercolor pencils to draw the eyes? because until now I wet a fine brush of the pencil's peak to get the color, but my hand go shaky as hell with it! and the few times I tried it only with the pencils it was so much easier to draw the shape and keep my pulse steady, but the color doesn't look as intente as it look when I use the brush

I've been repainting for over a year now. I started out my first 3 repaints, I think, with acrylics. But I just could not get them to look as nice as I wanted. So now I only use watercolor pencils - no matter what! - to draw the eyes. I am sometimes tempted to use acrylics to make the colors darker faster, but every time I tried it never turned out smooth. The watercolor pencils will look less intense, always, but you have to layer them all throughout the repaint until the colors are exactly how you want them!
Also, to help with shaky hands, I make sure to use gloves so I can rest my hand right on the doll's face without damaging it. It still takes practice, but when you finally feel more confident your hand should be much more steady~

hmm well, I think your results are really impressive for just 1 year doing it 0_0 I mean it looks like you have been doing it all your life. May I ask why did you started? :3
but anyway monster high dolls are pretty new, aren't they? I think they don't existed 5 years ago
do you have troubles with their peck? because if it's very sharp you can do great details, but it breaks so easily :s and mine break themselves just sharpening them
very good tip, honesty today was the first time I used sealant while repainting a MH and you were right, the color looks so much intense this way! I still have problems to draw eyes, but the last ones were the best ones I ever did, all thanks to you!
yeah, I use gloves too and I put relaxing music to make my heart beats slowler and control better my hand, I even try to breath slowler, but I think the main problem is the confidece, I really feel scared when drawing on them because I always think I don't want to ruin them.
I'm not annoying you with all those questions right? because I really appreciate your help, and it's really nice to talk with you. I REALLY want to be good at repaintings, I mean it's a true passion! and I think it's similar to you, someone never gets as good on something if they don't love what they do

No, no! This isn't annoying at all!
I used to draw a lot, but when I found out about BJDs I just lost interest in drawing because I enjoyed their photography more. This was a double sided coin because I missed creating but still didn't want to draw as often. With BJDs it always felt like I was just buying and buying and not doing too many creative things that were in my nature. I tried doing BJD face-ups, but I was immediately turned off by resin and how difficult it was to work it. However, when I saw other talented people repainting, I just felt like it was the perfect outlet to play with dolls while creating at the same time. It was so much more fun for me, unlike the first time I tried to work with a BJD face-up, that I had to keep doing it!
I don't really have too many problems with the pencil's point. Sometimes they are very easy to break, but I think it just requires practice to apply the right amount of pressure (lol, you're probably tired of me saying "practice!" all the time). If you still have trouble, maybe some other pencils brands are a little more sturdy? I noticed my prismacolor pencil was a little less soft than my current Derwent pencils so the point breaks less easily.

I didn't know you tried with BJDs too!
how more difficult is to paint them than paint monster highs? I mean you skip the hardes part: drawing the whole eyes 0_0 but althrough I recently got a new BJD head I didn't try to paint it yet, so maybe the texture makes the paint to don't stand
hmmm yep maybe I need to spend money on new pencils, I was trying to avoid it because mine are quite new...
OMG I searched prismacolor pencils on google and they indeed look really hard, but are they watercolor pencils or just normal pencils?
no prob, the theory helps a lot but I know the best way to improve is to practice as much as possible

(sorry for my delayed response, my connection is very spotty as of late)
I did try to work on BJDs a few times before. I had a hard time because I couldn't control the acrylics well (pencils always look grainy on resin so the best option is acrylics) and the pastels were much harder to get to look smooth. With vinyl heads like MH, it's a lot easier to get soft lines with pencils, as well as smooth blushing simply because the head is made of smooth yet "absorbent" vinyl-material. I would love to try again in the future, though!
And for the pencils, I always use the watercolor type since they're safest :3
