I'm here on behalf of #ThePencilClub as a mentor.
I thought this was fantastic upon seeing the thumbnail, and oh look, I fav'd it in the past! The only thing I would say to work on is how the background is just plain black, usually when art has a background it has more impact. It makes Shirley Temple look like she's awkwardly floating as well. I'm sure in the reference photo she was leaning on a table...drawing that in in a piece like this would improve it tremendously...
but other than that small little exercise of background, this is flawless! Very great job!

Thanks for your kind words! I thought the same after a few revisions, too much floating for Shirley.

"I'm here on behalf of a.deviantart.net/avatars/s/e/s… " alt=" " title="SelfTaughtArtist"/> because your piece was in the group's critique requested folder."

The lighting and shading on this peace is exquisite. The shading around her eyes is making me think she is saying "yes, can I help you?". This is amazing
The shading on the face is great. In the shading on the arms I see a little bit of lines but other than that this piece is flawless.

The hair is nicely done. Hair is pretty tough and this hair looks real. The clothing is also well done as well. The folds and design in the shirt are quite well. Great job e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

You got her image on one of the few times she wan't full of the most beautiful smile that could light up a room. I never used to see what the fuss was over most people with fame, but I do now. It's healthy to have some iconic people to remember so you confirm in your mind the way things "used" to be, and have faith that there WAS a time when life was easier....so much more beautiful and relaxed....... and people were mostly nice to each other. Nice work.

I love the expression you chose. I'm not sure how closely you followed the reference, but this pose, tiny arms supporting a melancholy baby-face, is quintessentially Shirley Temple. I also feel something else here, her expression isn't a theatrical childish pout but sincere and solemn. As if in a moment of introspection Shirley Temple is contemplating her own life story and impending death.

I love this picture. It made me question, *What is it like to have your face be known to the world...but only your childhood self?"
I seriously had to google image search to see what she looked like grown up.

I still can't believe she's passed away. Just a week or two ago I saw her in "Baby Take A Bow" and "Young People" and now she's gone. To tell you the truth, when I first found out that Shirley died, I thought it was a sick joke, but I looked it up and for a little bit I was in denial. Β It's just so shocking.

Lovely portrait! I love the shape of her eyes, it's so beautiful... and her mouth as well is very, very well-made. And let's not even talk about that wonderful hair...

Great work from her expression to the details, I like it very much! As I've read in one of the critiques, the only details I'd have changed are the table on which I suppose she was leaning, and her left's arm shade.

Overall, fantastic!

It seems to be shaded in a more old-timey photo like the ones taken in the early 20th century! Which is fantastic in the portrayal of little Ms. Temple and the choice of expression and pose gives her away as once being a glamorous actress in the 30's. You deserved that 2nd place... And dare I say the first place after I have viewed the contest. Brilliant work

This is amazing I still see it's a drawing, but so realistic drawing that it's hard to believe, so I keep on watching (when a drawing looks exactly like a photo with no pencil stores visible it doesn't catch me eye for so long)
