Kakashi: *orders some dumplings and then looks at Mei* Are you going to get anything?
Mei: *staring at table, shakes head* I don’t have any money.
Kakashi: Alright. What about that other girl? Does she have all the money between the two of you?
Mei: *shakes head again* No. Neither of us have any money.
Kakashi: Is there a reason you won’t look at me?
Mei: *gulps* Rei already told you.
Kakashi: I was told you’re shy, not that you don’t like eye contact.
Mei: *slowly lifts head with dark blush covering face and neck* “mumbles” I-it’s because… I’m… shy.
Kakashi: So you don’t look at people or talk to them?
Mei: I do… eventually.
Kakashi: Tell me a bit more about Rei. When you’re more comfortable we can talk about you.
Mei: What do you want me to say?
Kakashi: Whatever you want to. Try to be relaxed.
Mei: *quiet for a minute before smiling* Rei and I have been best friends for 9 years.
Kakashi: That’s a long time.
Mei: Yeah. It is. We’re so close that we’re like sisters.
Kakashi: What else?
Mei: She likes to write and read. This one time, she was writing and she based a character off of me… well, the part of me that isn’t shy. *laughing* The character was the crazy sister of a character she ended up basing off herself. The fact that she based a character off of me is amazing and really nice and sweet.
Kakashi: *cautiously* How was the character crazy exactly?
Mei: Well, she was really hyper all the time, always smiling, shouting more often than not, and just generally having a good time and not worrying about the seriousness that may happen in life. She had nicknames for almost everyone and did stupid stuff, despite being really smart. She just ended up doing things without thinking because they seemed fun and that’s what she really wanted to do at the time.
Kakashi: Nicknames?
Mei: Yeah. Her sister was wolfie sister. Her great uncle, Kai, was Unckie Kai. Her brother-in-law was brother fox. She was mostly just a goofball.
Kakashi: You said this character was based off you?
Mei: Yeah. I’m like that sometimes when I get used to being around someone. Like, if I were with just Rei, I’d be acting like that right now. Thing is, she ran off somewhere randomly.
Kakashi: How old are the two of you? She looks like she’s older than you are, but you talk like you’re the same age.
Mei: We’re both 23.
Kakashi: Really?
Mei: Is it that shocking?
Kakashi: Well, you look maybe 20. I believe that she’s 23, though she looks around 22 in actuality.
Mei: We’re both 23.
Kakashi: You seem a little more comfortable now. *smiles*
Mei: *blushes and looks down* A little.
Kakashi: Now tell me something about yourself.
Mei: Like what?
Kakashi: Tell me something you like.
Mei: I like to read and write. I also like to draw, but I’m not very good at that.
Kakashi: Now something you dislike.
Mei: Blood. Death. Pain. Seeing others upset. When people are mean to each other.
Kakashi: Hobbies.
Mei: Reading and writing.
Kakashi: What’s your dream for the future?
Mei: Uhhhhhh…
Kakashi: What’s wrong? You don’t have a dream?
Mei: No, I do. It’s just… life happens.
Kakashi: What do you mean?
Mei: I wanted to be a teacher to mold young minds, but I’ve lost confidence in that. I’m not mature enough yet to be able to do that. *sighs* Beyond that, I’m not comfortable discussing what else I want to do in the future.
Kakashi: Why not?
Mei: I don’t know you that well. Beyond that, you’re a man. *mumbles* A very attractive man, but still.
Kakashi: I heard what you mumbled.
Mei: *dark blush* I want to disappear.
Kakashi: *smiling* I don’t think it’s possible for humans to disappear.
Mei: I really want to disappear.
Kakashi: You can’t disappear. It’s not possible for humans to disappear.
Mei: But I want to.
Kakashi: But you can’t.
Waitress: Here are your dumplings.
Kakashi: Oh. Thank you.
Mei: *staring intently at his face, waiting for mask to come off*
Kakashi: *very slowly reaching up to pull mask down, pauses with hand on it then lowers hand* Do you want some dumplings?
Mei: No. I’m fine. Thank you.
Kakashi: *very slowly reaches up to pull mask down again, pauses with hand on it and then lowers had once again with smile* Are you sure? They’re really good here.
Mei: *just realized he’s teasing her, slowly gets up and starts trudging towards exit* I’m going to go find Rei.
Kakashi: You’ll get lost.
Mei: You don’t know that.
Kakashi: I believe what she said. You’ll get lost if you go looking for her.
Mei: *goes back to seat and sits down because it’s true* Why do I have to get lost so easily?
Kakashi: Why are you so eager to find her anyways? Am I not good company?
Mei: You are, but you’re teasing me now. It’s… I just… wait. She’ll tease me too. I can’t win. *realizes about then that he had finished his dumplings* When the hell did that happen?
Kakashi: What?
Mei: Well, you had dumplings when I got up… and when I sat back down.
Kakashi: I ate them while you were asking about getting lost so easily.
Mei: *frowning slightly at Kakashi* You knew I wanted to see your face, huh?
Kakashi: Yeah.
Mei: You did that just to mess with me, huh?
Kakashi: Yeah.
Mei: *looks down at table again* I’m not talking anymore.
Kakashi: Is this because I was messing around?
Mei: *nods*
Kakashi: I didn’t mean to upset you. It’s just that you have such great reactions that I can’t help it.
Mei: “mumbles” Meanwhile, Rei is teasing me too.
Kakashi: That’s why she had me watch you, right?
Mei: *nods*
Kakashi: It became pretty obvious. If you agree to look up, I’ll be nicer.
Mei: How nice exactly?
Kakashi: How about you look up and find out?
Mei: *slowly lifts her head*
Kakashi: *smiles* That’s better. I prefer talking to you this way anyways.
Mei: *nods*
Rei: *walking up* I’m back now. How was it?
Mei: *kneeling on ground in front of Rei and holding Rei’s clothes while looking up at her* I can’t believe you did that. You’re so mean. Never do anything like that again!
Rei: I can’t promise that.
