When it’s dark, the stars come out
And for a moment we are saved.

Marischen tried her best to cheer herself up, singing even in the darkest hour of the Alsace, but she was so close to fell into despair. It wasn't snowflakes which were falling, but dust of the fire far away, devastating another village. At least this one was just bombed, devastated. And deserted. Was she the only survivor? Is her effort to search for another survivor useless?
Please, please, stars, please come out and save us...

As many have guessed, this is more about the fall of the Alsace, which pictures my district 65 years ago. In less than a century, the Alsace was the prey of three wars. And two of them were world wide.
For the only crime to be in the middle of two countries. How many of them had they search for a relative in the ruins of their native village? ...

I'm glad to live in a peaceful district and to never have lived during a war.
