Description Inspired by a photo I took a long time a go. The original photo had a problem: I didn't really like the head of the deer. So I looked at a bunch of deer photos and this is the final head version I came up with (yes, this species may not exist in reality : )

With this painting I wanted to practice creating the sense of perspective on a field (this was something I had had trouble with on this other painting www.deviantart.com/ana2mars/ar… ).

I also tried a DIY "masking-fluid" recipe I had seen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPEwvF… . It worked quite well, with a little adjustment to fit my purpose. I got a little carried away with it : )

The deer looks a bit tentative (it was) but overall I am pleased with the painting, and it was a lot of fun to do. What do you think? does the perspective make sense?

Painted with watercolor on paper for pastels, with home-made gelatin sizing.

Nice one - shades of "Stag at bay" by Landseer              If I may comment with the understanding I know nothing about traditional art,      some of the principles of composition and use of depth of field in photography might apply though. I agree with the comments above about sense of depth by Seanash and I'd  go a little further by saying you might do better by going closer to the deer, or making it slightly darker, to emphasise that it's the point of focus. Are those three trees, top left, a little distracting from the deer?

Beyond those little points,  a great job Ana

My wife has a pet hate of submissions (usually multiple!) of a cat at the bottom of the garden when you really need binoculars

Seriously, any animal portrait is best as the dominant part of the artwork/photograph. I know you realise it, your flamenco
dancer illustrates it perfectly    Keep up the good work and please forgive my ignorant interference

Really love the painterly style with the speckles on the sides, it looks really beautiful!!! If you wanted to give it a bit more depth you (and I don't know much about painting or how to do environments) you could either create more detail in the front of the image  www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h… and less details moving away (so that would mean adding more grass sprites in the front of your image to contrast the fewer grass sprites in the distance) or you could have the image getting lighter as it moves away from your subject matter  www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h…

It is worth mentioning that as it is, it does convey a sense of depth..more than your other images. Good job on that, environments are quite hard to do and I dont do many of them.
