Oh my gosh. This is so beautiful I could almost cry. I'm not kidding. It's amazing how perfectly you captured the intimacy and magic in the anticipation of a kiss. The anticipation makes it so much more exciting somehow. The proportions are perfect and the highlights and shadows are perfectly placed. I am in awe of how you painted their skin. Look at those colors! I'm dying to paint here. This is so beautiful... <3

Its beautiful. I love the connection between the two. Ok i read your comment that you "fixed" it. And that you are sorry. I haven't read any of the comments. But i did read your journal, it had said something about this piece. First of all i am an artist myself. i cannot post my art on this site because i don't have a scanner of any type to put it on here. And by loving your art i suspect you are an artist yourself. As an artist you shouldn't have to "fix" anything, or even apologize. Stepping on peoples toes is apart of getting your point of view known. I didn't see what this beautiful piece looked like before but im sure that it was even better, because its how you saw it, not how other people wanted it to be. I love your work and you have a unique style. And if it means anything at all i use photo references all the time. I need to be correct on every curve of someones body or an object of some kind. <3 Next time get a bag of popcorn and enjoy the conflict. Thats what great art does, it brings out different options.

...........White washed? You're kidding right? Shes was white washed when they gave them blue eyes :/ how many Inuits have YOU ever seen with blue eyes and Caucasian features? Shes hardly any more washed then Asami or any of the other anime characters that are "supposed" to be asian but have blonde hair and multi-colored eyes. You don't even know her so how can you call her a racist? You should all be ashamed of yourselves, besides the show is more racist then her, where are the caucasian people or the hispanic people or HELLO the actually black people?

sn4pdr4g0n In reply to Maxcine99 [2015-01-24 14:54:47 +0000 UTC]

I think the blue eyes were meant to be indicative of the "water" part of "water tribe."

Also a person can be racist without realizing it. The reason people are upset is that there are not many popular shows that represent lots of types of people other than white, and when there is finally one that does and someone misses the significance and changes it to white, they are effectively erasing the representation. Perhaps not intentionally, but it's a problem. Most white people don't understand because they have never ever been oppressed by another race and have NEVER had a problem with representation in media. I acknowledge that I have white privilege simply by being born this way and the worst thing I could do is ignore and erase the other races by not "seeing" them. If that makes any sense. Not trying to argue, just thought I'd share my own point of view. I don't agree with the hate directed at the artist. I think people could have been a lot more constructive about it.

Who the hell cares what skin tone she chose for Kora? Really ppl? andrahilde is ther artist here, this picture says nothing about if shes racist or not. And if she is, who cares? Let her be herself. If you have such a big problem with it, then why even bother commenting?Koras skin looks fine, personally this is what color i would have done her skin too! and not because im racist, but because i would choose to. JUST DROP IT ALREADY! Go do somthing with your lives, rather then pester someone who doesnt deserve it!

[link] -_____- it's ok if the skin is only a bit lighter. Compare those two colors. Believe me, I really do hate posting comment about a POC (person of color) charater being whitewashed, I really do. But as a human being with a tan skin, I've been told "you should use 'fair and lovely'" and now seeing real people being whitewashed like Beyonce [link] in magazine, it has gotten the best of me.

yep im italian so im not pale by any means. but andrahilde is not racist nor is this any white washing.. look at the rest of her gallery before making such assumptions

OrangyLotusx3 In reply to Why-did-Kenji-die [2012-07-23 20:11:21 +0000 UTC]

Ugh. I can't anymore. Smh. Whitewashed paintings does not equal a racist artist at all. Whitewash β‰  racist artist (unless the artist did it intentionally, and thought it was funny). I never called her racist, and I doubt she is. Did you not compare those two skin color? Look again [link] , how about Beyonce, is that not whitewashing?
Before this goes on, I do not want to add fuel on something that is already a situation. Yes, whitewashing is wrong, and I do not mean to hurt the artist feelings about it. It's just a valid critique, and I say it before anything goes wrong. Like I said before, everything is perfect about the painting, the anatomy of it makes me practice my sketches, but skin does matter to those who have been discriminated, so take that into consideration.

but i dont understand how the artist would choose to white wash one piece of fan art and not the others? white washing is to intentionally hide the true color of someones skin, andra was just being artsy so its not white washing, she didn think "ah korra is too dark i need to make her whiter"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OrangyLotusx3 In reply to Why-did-Kenji-die [2012-07-24 07:29:55 +0000 UTC]

Intentional or not how does it change the fact that the photo are whitewash? Saying it was not intentional doesn't automatically mean a photo is not whitewash. This is why whitewashing does NOT equal a racist artist, because sometimes we don't notice the difference and that whole artsy example you said.
Just because she was being artsy, doesn't make the photo un-whitewashed. It's whitewashed it's whitewashed. It's just a critique, that won't just make some people out there feel better, but show kids darker skin is acceptable. Kids notice things, especially a person's skin color. On Youtube, there of video of white-skin and dark-skin children choosing between white and black dolls. The white dolls won. Before I start getting hates again, saying a photo is whitewashed, does NOT mean I'm hating or insulting the artist at all.

whitewashing means that there was a focus on race when that is not the case, therefore this is not white washing.

OrangyLotusx3 In reply to Why-did-Kenji-die [2012-07-28 08:57:14 +0000 UTC]

Ok... wow. I don't know how to make this any clearer for you to understand. Let me make this short. Whitewashing, focuses on both race and skin color. But we are not focusing on the character's race (I guess that would be Inuit which the Water Tribe is based off) we are focusing on the skin color.

This is supposed to be an artistic community, meaning people won't judge you on what you paint, but how you paint it and the (interesting/creative) meaning behind the painting. Accusing you of whitewashing is flat and narrowminded. You were clearly going for some kind of clair-obscur style, which purpose is to enhance the light parts in contrast to the dark. Making korra darker reduces that effect, there was no intent to racism, just artistic necessity (or so i believe). It's an amazing painting looking at the artistic side, the way you show intimacy with sheer dark/light shows your love for the series! My advice for next time, if people start bitching again: for all artistic means, make her purple and him green/blue or whatever colour, so nobody can say a word about it anymore (that's when the narrow-minders see creativity, usually). After all, art is about freedom and thinking outside the box, that also means that people should stop making a difference between a dark or a light skin, it doesn't matter and it shouldn't be a matter (just a way of making the artist feel like a racist, which she is obviously NOT).
