Description Hollywood

On January 18, 2012, a human head was discovered directly below the Hollywood Sign. Today, January 22, 2012, we hiked past it to, ironically, the Love Box on Mt. Cahuenga. (See below)

This is the Hollywood sign from behind. I hiked up there yesterday, Sunday, December 14th, with some friends.

Here are other photos I have taken of the sign from different perspectives and situations:

on  Hollywood.  There is no way to drive to this place. You need a minimum two hour round-trip hike. It's worth it!

You're welcome! I love the Hollywood sign more than ever now that I know more of its history! Someday, I wanna shoot a film around it (and I mean, LITERALLY, "around" it)!

When I got too close to the sign, a big burly security guard screamed at me through a loudspeaker, "Get off this property. I'm calling the police to have you arrested!"

If you convince them you're a serious film maker, they would likely give you access to the sign.

Well, I won't really need the actual sign to shoot. I would just shoot around and over it: a battle taking place in a tower above the Hollywood sign, which results in an explosion, knocking down the tower, which also knocks off the sign itself, and once the tower rolls down the hill, the letters come flying down and land on the ground beside the tower, perfectly lined up to spell the word (or some letters could mix up to misspell the word).

I'm a certified hike leader with the Sierra Club and if you're ever in L.A. you could come with us and I'd made sure we all went to this spot. It takes about 2.5 hours round-trip. There is no climbing to get there. It's just a gradual elevation gain.

Oh this is very interesting !!
Maybe I'll go there too.
It will depend of how much time I will have.
There are so many things I want to do and visit there !!
I really want to go visit the canyons and the desert so for that I need to go with a touristic tour meaning at least 5-6 days.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndySerrano In reply to elodie50a [2011-12-23 12:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you're going with a tour. That should be interesting. I've always wondered what it would be like to go on a tour of my own city.

Usually, when I visit cities, I tour on my own by using buses, trains, and cabs. When I visited Chicago, I was walking with my wife on the South side and we visited some pool halls playing with the locals. When we walked out, a policeman stopped us and said, "Do you know where you are?" We said, "No. We're walking back to downtown." The cop said, "You shouldn't be in this area at night." He then gave us a ride to the train station.

That happened in a couple of other places as well. But, we have fun.

elodie50a In reply to AndySerrano [2011-12-28 07:48:22 +0000 UTC]

Oh for Los Angeles I will not make a touristic tour since I will go to a friend who lives there.
But for going in the desert and to visit the canyon it's the better way to took a touristic tour, since it's a long road and about 6 days to visit.

I understand what you mean. I also prefere to visit places by myself, it's better, more fun and more suprising. I usually always do that.
But I always watch in the city guide witch places we should not visit
In Paris las time I went there with my Mom, when we arrived there we wanted to go to the "Père LaChaise" cemetery. We asked to a man and he was reporter for National Geographic he was very nice and friendly, he asked how we will visit Paris. We told him that we have a map and a guide book and we will use a lot of metro to go to the places we want to visit. Then he told us something I will never forget

"You should try walk and get lost in the streets, it's the better way to visit a city, get lost walking in the streets, you will discover things you didn't planned "

And we did that and it was great

I know, it's absolutely gorgeous, and I think hiking to it is a lot more exciting than driving. Although I must say, I wouldn't enjoy it too much on one of those hot LA days.

It's worth the trip, the sign is iconic. Beautiful picture, it really captures the moment and makes you feel like you're there.

Hollyweird! This is a really great shot...I like the view of all the rich people's homes. (And that better not be a 4-storied home I see. If so, that's ridiculous!) Now, what is this...is that a lake I see? I did not know there was one in that area.

AndySerrano In reply to AyaneShinobi [2008-12-19 16:17:06 +0000 UTC]

Those are called McMansions here. They create lot of controversy. The neighbors hate them because they obstruct their view of the city below. And the lake on the right is Lake Hollywood. You have to really study the map to figure out how to get to it. People use the perimeter as a jogging path. It's really very pretty

There is only one spot on the very tip top of the mountain where this view of the sign can be taken. There are trees hiding it elsewhere. You have to step right up to the very edge of a small cliff to take the photo.
