There is something so fantastic about WWI imagery. It feels like such a surreal war, this strange transition in how warfare was waged. It also just seems insane. The whole chaotic world at war. It certainly has a strong mystique.

A mix of middle-age strategy with modern weapons, it was a slaughter.

"I listen and communicate better when I'm drawing":
I used to think the same while I was at school but now I feel more the contrary because of how I am concentrated while drawing... Pretty strange change for me!

Germans can really screw you up! Love the "Deutschland Uber Alles" banner on the trench wall. They look really serious and tired. Poor lads. Well done!
We would have crushed the Allies, but our Schlieffen Plan was not carried out by the commanders, and we were a tired army. Then the Americans randomly joined in and battered our tired troops. All this mayhem, plus the impotent British and French with their Treaty of Versailles. They, right then and there, brought on WW2 and the rise of Hitler. Thanks a lot Allies, you started this war, then berated us into depression and starvation, opening the door for Hitler to step into Germany's gov't battlefield. All your fault! Wunderbar!
Great Piece, mein Bruder!

So this is really well drawn, I like the poses the men are in.
Now I've got a question: what is with the numbers on the helmets?
I'm not getting the joke.

If I may interfere... I'm not sure if the artist has a specific number joke in mind, but German infantry units (with few exceptions) displayed their regimental numbers in the front of their cloth helmet cover (as well, as on their shoulder straps) in the early part of the war.

I was at a Gunshow recently, and I saw a couple of those WWI German caps for sale (as in, the kind that fellow in the middle is wearing).
Good stuff.
