A LITTLE HELP

A/N: All characters from Inuyasha belong to Rumiko Takahashi.

It was almost eight o'clock as Sesshomaru sat at his desk filling out paperwork for work the following day. He had much more than usual, but of course such a task did not faze him as long as he could concentrate. That concentration was broken, however, when the sound of pattering feet on the hard wood floor raced past his office. First down the hall, then up, and then back down again.

It was a distraction he could ignore easily enough, but the particular sound her feet were making had captured his attention and needed to be dealt with. Giving his paperwork one last look, Sesshomaru switched his gaze to the door.

"Rin," he called, waiting patiently for an answer. She didn't hear him.

The excited pattering continued, this time followed by muffled giggles as young Rin played tag with herself. How that little girl could be entertained so easily was beyond his knowledge.

"RIN," he called again.

This time the pattering paused, and then grew louder until the said little girl was by his side, smiling brightly as always. "Yes, Sesshomaru-sama?"

"Where are your stockings?" He questioned as he glanced down at her bare feet. "I told you to keep them on so you wouldn't catch cold."

Rin looked down at her toes and rotated slightly so she could watch her checkered dress float back and forth. "They fell off."

"Why didn't you put them back on?" he returned eyeing her carefully.

Still distracted by her dress Rin finally replied, "I did, but they wouldn't stay."

A nearly accurate image of Rin putting her socks on sideways crossed Sesshomaru's mind and he had to suppress the urge to roll his eyes. Sighing inwardly, he set down the pencil he was holding and looked at Rin. "Bring them to me."

"Bring what?"

"Your socks, Rin."

"Oh. Ok!"

Immediately Rin skipped out of the room and returned with a bundle of cloth in her hand that Sesshomaru could only assume were her socks. Taking them in one hand and turning her around with the other, he knelt down behind her and began to pull the socks on her delicate, little feet. Rin quickly wrapped one arm around his neck and placed the other arm on his to keep from tipping over since he was her only source of balance.

When both socks were pulled neatly in place Sesshomaru sat up straight and turned her around to face him so he could inspect his handiwork. "There. They won't fall off again."

Rin gave him an honest but questionable look. "Really? Are you sure?"

"Yes." he replied simply.

Rin looked down at her perfectly covered feet and a hint of sadness passed over her face.

"What is it Rin?" Sesshomaru asked.

"I like it better when my socks fall off."

A bit surprised, Sesshomaru eyed her inquisitively. "Why?"

"Because you always help me put them back on."

Okay, I was going to wait a few days before posting this since I just posted "Aftermath" , but I was just too excited to wait... Neh. XD I had so much fun drawing Rin with InuYasha in the modern era with short hair [link] that I just had to do the same for Sesshomaru. ^///^ I'm not quite sure what to think of him with short hair and no markings... it almost feels like a violation to take them from him. But I guess he doesn't look too bad. CX He just looks too good as a demon. (btw, like the tie? I had to put his markings somewhere... lol)

I must confess that the sock Idea belongs to my sister, but then again she would not have come up with it if I hadn't done the pic of InuYasha. CX I'm glad she did though. It was a lot of fun.

The little oneshot fanfic came to me a couple days ago while I was at work. I wrote it down so fast and had so many other things on my mind afterwards that I didn't stop and realize until now that this is my second official fanfic! (written anyways CX) All the doujinshis I've done have just been storyboarded, not written before hand. So I'm quite proud of it. =The-Elven-Priestess was also kind enough to be my Beta for it, so thanks El!!
