"If only it were true, if only reality could be so divine..." Is the initial impression I get on impact.
A dream left that some men still treasure, that woman, that life, that world where love and romance still exist, that world where a man treasures her because he can safely cry in her lap, and her precious touch heals.
Gone are the days where he is the lock, and she is the key. Gone are the days where one hopes that a world like Disney portrays in its animated film classics could possibly exist. Now it is just a dream, just a frozen moment in time, a dream that even the most faithful are about to give up on.
For me personally, this is a very painful critique because of the vision I was compelled to project upon it. So for vision, I am going with a rock solid 5. Not because it is clear and unmistakable, but because it is open to allow the viewer to let their own vision come to life, the artist in this instance is supplying the work in progress, and allowing the partaker to complete it in their heart and soul.
For originality, I am forced to punish the artist with a 3, out of my own jaded view of women that our society has engrained into my mind. Sex is sold everywhere there is a dollar to be made, so because of that, I feel hopeless that such a reality as this still exists. Woman + bedroom has, for too long now, been associated with advertising or pornography. What should be a sacred moment shared between two, is nothing more than a sales pitch, or something to be viewed as degrading to her for monetary gain.
But is that 3 a bad thing for the artist? No. The artist did what needed to be done, even though the artist had to contend with the soiled imagery that society has burned into the eyes of men, creating the woman as an object to be used to quell simple animal desires. Even if nothing more than a lone voice in the wilderness, the artist still lumbers slowly forward, bringing the image of the female back to its intended pristine state at divine creation.
Technique is another solid 5. What appears at first glance to be a black and white photo slowly turns into a heavenly vision of a clean and pristine, bright white dream.
Though I do not know how, the artist has somehow made the black of the hair and undergarments enhance the purity of the white. The black somehow elevates her above the perceived opposition of the black to the white, and gives her control over the area. This is something I have seen from this artist before; this artist has shown a talent for displaying the female in a very strong and controlling manner. The last time was very aggressive, but in this instance, it is the purity of her femininity that places a measure of control over the image.
For impact, I must return to a 3. The presence of another shatters my dream because, the other is not me. In my opinion, I would rather have seen no other human in the room, the absence of the other person would have raised the originality to a 4, and the impact to a 4.
The problem the image suffers with originality and impact is specific to me, it is not something I can say could or would be true generally. As the father of 8 Daughters, and a hopeless romantic, I will always prefer to see the woman alone, and in her purest state when displayed in black and white. If this were a color image, the originality and impact would have been the 5's, and the technique and vision the 3's.
