I have always wondered about this type of piece: Do you do the paint first and then sketch with charcoals after it dries?

So the watercolor is basically blocking the image before you draw it? I love how the edges of the watercolour areas don't line up with the sketch lines. I want to try this someday.

I do the slight pencil sketch first, and then watercolour. Yes, it appears that watercolour is blocking the image.
