May i know what program you used to make this piece? Photoshop? How can it has such an impossible details, both in colors and the lines?

anotherwanderer In reply to crave4fantasy [2016-02-19 13:19:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Photoshop. The impression of more detail can be achieved with textured and scattered brushes, basically you paint 'nonsense' that looks like detailed texture from a distance. Besides that, you only need patience to polish everything, it takes at least 3-4 days to complete one of these.

To be honest, i really want to draw like you and Sandara Tang (i made my own deviantart account because i was inspired by both of you), but so far i know nearly nothing about Photoshop. Do you have some painting tutorial for beginner? my friends just used photoshop for photo manipulation but i have no interest in that kind of thing. I want to learn the 'real' painting, like what you do.

Wow, that's really nice to hear and i'm glad you find my work inspiring Β
I learned photoshop slowly, by myself, and i also started with photo manipulation and paintovers, so i don't know of any absolute beginner tutorials. But if you're using Ps for painting you don't need to learn most of the complicated functions, all you need is a good set of brushes (even the default ones will do) and the basic knowledge on how to handle image files. The painting process is pretty straightforward, similar to real life techniques.Β
I googled around and found this, it seems like a good introduction:Β lifehacker.com/5781134/digital…
At this point, you should focus on the basics like composition, anatomy, perspective, etc. Try keeping a sketchbook and draw things from photos and from life, making studies is the key to everything. It will all fall together later and you're be able to work both digitally and traditionally by applying that knowledge.

In my opinion this image captures a sense of depth that is pronounced enough to capture the viewers eye. Or at least it captured mine. I haven't produced much art yet due to a lack of resources but finding images like this one really helps me to understand some of the elements I've been searching for and how I might go about practicing them. I especially enjoy the way you used more ruff style brush strokes on the background and used detail and color to bring out the foreground subject and surrounding elements. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into producing an image like this. Really great work thanks for sharing it.
