Vyv grew up in Ecruteak City, Johto as part of a large family; the second of 8 children. His parents bred designer eevees destined for shows, contests, and a life of luxury, and expected the same performance of their children. Vyv and his sisters were entered in Pokemon Contests from a young age, their parents homeschooled them so they'd have more time for rehearsals and pageants. This led to a rather lonely childhood with few friends and they missed out on the usual childhood experiences.
At 16 Vyv decided he'd had enough, he didn't enjoy the constant competition and the demands of perfection from his parents. He'd come to hate every part of contests he'd once enjoyed, and he took the opportunity to slip away during a trip to compete in Kanto. He went south to Vermilion City and from there caught a ship to Alola to stay with his maternal grandmother. He spent the next few years living happily in Alola, his grandmother was supportive when he came out and transitioned, and he took on odd jobs to help his grandma pay the bills. It was through this that he first dipped his toe in more illicit activities, he became involved with Team Skull at a very low level - mainly running errands and other menial tasks. Team Skull disbanded when he was 19, and it was at that point his grandmother encouraged him to return to the mainland where there would be more opportunities for a young man.
Vyv arrived in Issho via Starlight Marina, and made his way from there to Union City where he stayed in a hostel and worked a variety of jobs to earn enough money to afford a place to live. It was at one of his jobs that a co-worker let him know about an organisation that was starting to make some changes to the way things were run - had he thought about how many people are injured or killed trying to do the league challenge every year? And look at how the authorities did nothing to help the little guy when the city was attacked by that creature?
