16x20 Inches Oil on Canvas I grew up in L.A., California with the Pacific Ocean practically in my backyard. I swam and body surfed every day of every summer for years and years but now I live too far inland up here in Portland, (where it is too cold anyway). I painted this because I long to swim in the warm ocean water...to get up early in the morning and ride the perfect wave...to become one with the Universe as the sun penetrates and glitters through the back wall of a wondrous 'tube' where time stops for a moment...and then you escape through the backdoor moments before the wave comes crashing down with a thunderous roar. Yes, as a Pisces I dearly miss the Pacific Ocean during summer.Related content

Wow. I absolutely love this painting, and the stuff you wrote about it. You are lucky to have grown up in L.A. Is it nice? Must be. I've never been. But that thing about water- totally true. You lose yourself. Sigh. I've never seen the Pacific Ocean. This painting is gorgeous, though.

As an Aquarius i looooove to swim in a warm ocean! I never swim in the seas of Holland. Way too cold, even on a hot summerday

I have other seascapes where the water is dark blue...I would love to swim in the ocean with you...the warm ocean!

I wasted some time and money long ago taking life drawing and illustration at Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design but learned nothing about painting. I've been painting for about 5 years now. I've read a couple of books that really helped with the structure, the actual building up of a piece of to make it archival... from canvas to gesso to layering thick and thin paint so it won't crack in 20 years, etc. Mostly technique. And some videos. But I would definitely say that i'm self taught.
It really makes me happy and amazed, (it's hard to look you in the eye, so I look down and lightly kick at a pebble with my sneaker), that an artist of your obvious talents and genius likes my work. There's a real smile on my face right now and that has been rare this past week. Maybe I'll try to paint this weekend.

This is really perfect, beautiful sky and the water and wave, if I look long enough I can see it move, very heavenly painting. The name you gave it is very ok.

You would be surprised but that ocean scene was actually a much easier thing to paint than most others...I could easily teach you (or anybody) how to paint it. I could teach the other paintings also but they are harder and take more practice!

This is wonderful! I completely know how you feel about the ocean. It is so magnificent, being in the ocean is such an experience. I love the purples and blues and greens in this piece.
