Description Along the far border of Federation and Republic space, far from the troubles of the galaxy, lies an absolute mystery.

Discovered by the Secessionist Grand Republic in CY-1067, Ascordys is named for a figure from Triotan mythology. The surface is covered in an odd, black jungle seldom seen near F-type stars, with an ocean matching the color. Beaches line the coasts between continent and sea, covered in a white sand which reflects the golden sky. Looking up, Ascordys is surrounded with a dim, golden ring system, composed mostly of metal and rock.

Where jungle does not stretch brings the uncertain to light; what appear to be the ruins of an ancient civilization dot the planet, with fallen skyscrapers and overgrown metal highways littering the landscape. From planetary surveys, it appears that this civilization had only just begun its industrial age before perishing. This statement is supported by the lack of any identifiable launch facilities or airports, with only small concrete-like stretches strewn about the wilderness. No remains of automobiles have been found, but evidence of smaller, individual-based transportation is present.

Dating the age of the ruins yields a large margin of error. However, the earliest estimate for the planetary extinction event is BCY-3900. Though initially suspected, war is not likely to be the cause; analyzed chemical layers demonstrate a volcanic release of hydrogen sulfide gas may have occurred roughly 6000 years prior to the planet's discovery, which falls close to the early estimate. The planet's life has since recovered, but the civilization is lost forever.

A stranger mystery lies on the planet's south pole: A 3000 meter, triangular pyramid rises from the exact southern tip. The structure extends in the same pyramid fashion an additional 3000 meters down, deep into a sort of locking mechanism seen from the surface. Neither the structure nor its locking mechanism bear any apparent form of entry, and seismic-echo scans return negative; it only reads as a solid titanium pyramid, but its origins are unknown.

Due to the planet's golden atmosphere and beaches, the Republic unofficially refers to Ascordys as "El Dorado".
