I believe Griffin was an ambigram pioneer. The bilateral symmetry of AOXOMOXOA is well known. I seem to recall him playing with 180 degree rotatational symmetry in Zap Comix -- WOW MOM, for example.

Although I seem to recall Griffin playing with word symmetries and other geometrical games, I've been able to find precious few examples on the net. I don't know if my memories are real or a figment of my imagination.
