Edit: Lessened the contrast and darkened it a bit. I also completely got rid of the contrast in the distant forest part, attempting to give it more depth.

*crawls out of a hole*
Well, I've been stuck down there for a month, but I bring you the one thing that kept me alive, other than the bugs and dripping water from the walls.

Specs
Vue 6 xStream (I upgraded)
Photoshop CS2

Render time: 9 hours
Postwork time: a lot
Full size: 2650 x 1762

Bird Brushes: [link]

So after many Vue tutorials and some planet practice, I came up with this. I'm working on depth and detail, I hope it shows.

Comments, favs and critique are much appreciated. I don't plan to wait a month between each piece in the future, so don't worry about that.

It looks nice.
But in my opinion you kinda ruinend the quality of the render itself.
Did you did a blur + lighten on it ?
Looks like it.

Yeah I did something like that. I'm trying to experiment with a few ways to make the render stand out more. I guess that mostly has to do with the lighting, wich I still need to practice with in Vue. Have any tips?

Sure thing M8! Hope you didn't spill anything while laughing..snicker..

I forgot the movie but there was a scene in it with a terrain like yours.
Always wanted to do that.

Do you do terragen?
Mayhaps we could do a colab and make that spiky filled terrain after all, or somethin anyhoo

Aphotik In reply to Sgtgrandpa [2008-03-06 20:47:46 +0000 UTC]

I used to use Terragen but I wanted to incorporate more things into my terrains like trees and 3D models. So now I use Vue 6 xStream. And collabs are always cool. If you come up with a terrain I could postwork it or whatever.

due to message center issues it has taken me 2 months to find this message.
Yes I am still up for a colab.
Let us do notes now.
I hate dA's message center.

Interesting landscape. It was a little difficult to analyze with small view for me, but I could tell where everything was in large view.
Still, nice job.

wow I love this!! where did you get that land render? I love it! BTW, I really love how the cheetah (or is it a leopard?) brings it all together!

Thanks! And I created and rendered this in Vue 6.

I like the scene but, here's my advance critique to it. Get ready for it

My main problem with it is that, actually, it took me to go and take the scene and crank up the Gamma Correction to go wow at the scene. Maybe it's the brightness of my monitor but I had no idea there were any trees whatsoever until I did that.

I also just noticed the leopard on a closer look (zoom) and I actually had to search for the birds to actually notice them. I think the scene is very good, but the composition doesn't let it shine in all of its magnificence.

Aphotik In reply to S0ulfire84 [2008-03-01 03:24:08 +0000 UTC]

Really? I actually thought it was too bright so I darkened it a bit. I guess our monitor settings are different. Maybe I'll do some more tweaking...I wish there were universal monitor settings at the touch of a button.

S0ulfire84 In reply to Aphotik [2008-03-01 05:25:47 +0000 UTC]

it sucks all monitors are so differently configured. I actually do believe my monitor is a slight bit on the dark side. Maybe yours is slightly on the light side, so the difference we see is pretty big.

Just a theory really. I've actually searched about color calibration and crossed this site [link] , with which I just recalibrated my monitor. It seems to work better, though I find it somewhat strange to look at now, I see your image much better. I should probably recalibrate the colors and all really. It'd be a pretty good thing to do.

Aphotik In reply to S0ulfire84 [2008-03-01 21:04:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I don't blame you for having a dark monitor. My eyes can't stand that much brightness for long. But yeah, thanks for the site. I may have to calibrate my monitor differently every time I make a new piece.

I tweaked it a little. Lemme know if that's better.

crashfusion In reply to Aphotik [2008-03-01 04:31:01 +0000 UTC]

that is better.

the text doesnt need the blur around it
neither the trees in the bottom, those could be realistic.
(sorry for sounding mean if i do)

Broken-Lithium [2008-02-28 22:55:13 +0000 UTC]

it has some nice effects although i still think it lacks depth; it would be nice too see it bigger but from what i can see...
the blurred effect doesnt really look good and can remove show less detail
and it might be best to have duller colours in the background to help add depth
the render and composition look nice but i think that depth could be shown better through colours and detail
anyway its nice
all that probably made no sense at all...

Broken-Lithium In reply to Broken-Lithium [2008-02-28 22:57:10 +0000 UTC]

ahh oops i couldnt see the full view lol >< but i still think it the blurred effect removes depth and the clouds seem a bit bright lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aphotik In reply to Broken-Lithium [2008-02-28 22:59:52 +0000 UTC]

Lol yeah full view. And I did the blurr and the bright clouds to make it feel dreamy. If it's really that bad though, I guess I can tweak it.
