Following the inctructions for the mysterious potion, the concoction should have had a visible, glowing reaction.

Hermione tried many times following the complex steps but to no avail.

"I can do this..."
She repeated to herself...
And when almost all hope was lost, she had an intuition...
The strange ingredient was probably the key: increasing its amount would probably result in a success.

She decided to alter the recipe by adding her old, sweat soaked socks, which she wore for a week straight for the occasion.

Her eyes shined again when she finally saw the expected reaction...
She really was the brightest witch of her age...
