Description

OKAY SECOND PART OF PAI'S SQ7 that I like quite a lot more.

I lost my file for my original painting in a dropbox complication (very different from this) HOWEVER once I got access to another tablet I could use, I furiously began work on this one on Tuesday.
Used a very, very different painting technique compared to my usual method as an experiment--I totally disregarded my greyscale method in favor of the technique I normally use on real canvas, and used nothing but a brush tool and an eyedropper--no blending, no smudge tool, nothing. Gave a really different value to my colors than usual, so I'm pretty satisfied with the experiment (as far as the slight perspective fail and the meh-ness of my beast drawing abilities... eeehhhhh just try to overlook that part).

Goooood heavens, the colour combination is perfection!! I mean, it's all there at the right place. What's wrong with the beasts? I think they look just right ♥

I can imagine that! You can see it! oh btw, could you teach me how you did that light effect? Like not the usual light but leading to warm and cool tones?

Just... lots of transition colors XD Not really using any blenders, but just using slightly transparent brushes and picking up the colors in between.

Aaah, nice trick! So you start with the base colour that the thing has, and then you go darker and lighter?

applePAI In reply to MiharuShiro [2012-12-09 20:53:52 +0000 UTC]

Mm... it depends xD usually I try to tint all the base colors toward that of the lighting.
Also great tip: Using complimentary colors in different areas of your painting to balance things out.

Wow, Pai, outstanding artwork! 8'D
I love the colouring technique that you used here: it makes the whole artwork look very artistic and the contrast of colours gives dynamism and a real atmosphere of war and chaos. So yea, I think you should keep on using and developing this technique for it is really impressive!
Excellent job!

A-aah, thank you so much! 8'D I'm so glad it comes across that way. You can rest assured I'll be (and already have been) continuing with this technique. Thank you again! That means everything coming from you.

These colors are really awesome xD and I like the shading on his clothes. Yay for using only the brush and eyedropper |D This is what I do... I used to abuse the smudge tool years ago but way prefer not using it. There's something more rewarding about the process without it.

Thank youuuu 8D
I actually drew inspiration from you when I was doing this XD I'd pause and look at it and go "... this looks rather Zaleho-like" especially with the palette and everything XD

Well, your experiment turned into a success. I almost never use the smudge tool after some practice on using different flows and opacities. It's actually a lot easier that way and more fun.

Thanks x'D
I usually depend pretty heavily on it; I have a particular brush I use it with that makes it behave a lot nicer.
I'm finding, as well, that I really enjoy not using it! XD

I used to as well, but then it didn't really give me the results I wanted.

By the way I like the dude's hair.
