I can also think of things I relate to this about, haha. Though I have found that it's easier to be appreciated as an artist by supporting and encouraging other artists and appreciating their efforts too. I tend to see art as a form of communication or documented record of what the creator was thinking or cared about at the time it was made, so IMO the only thing putting art in a hierarchy of well- or poorly-drawn does is make it more difficult to value and connect with what the artist wanted to express with the piece on its own.
I think Ricken might be primarily concerned about the safety of his little birds, though.
