I agree. If it were too shallow then you would lose touch with the environment and the picture would lose the message. The way it is is just perfect - you still see and feel it, but it is not distractive.

I do see your point, but I also think, the position of the child supports a certain kind of feeling that is expressed in the title. The child is off-center, meaning in a world apart. It is a funny thing, isn't it? What does a picture say, and what do we want to see in it? Does a picture say ever anything different from what we want to see in it?

Great explanation. I take it. I just didn't take enough time to try to understand the message of the image, and now when I do it makes sense.
You see, it's the XXI century internet world. You either catch something in a fraction of a second, or the attention is gone forever...
