Description ...Or the seven daughters of Atlas and the nymph Pleione.  They are star nymphs and I already depicted one here: (More) Greek nymphs

They were companions of Artemis and also sisters of the Hyades, the rain nymphs. There are two stories about why they became stars.

1. After his father's death, Zeus "catasterized" them because they made a suicide pact to be together in heaven. So tragic but so beautiful (that's Greek mythology for ya )

2. When Atlas was forced to carry the heavens on his shoulders, he could not protect his daughters from Orion, the mighty hunter, and so Zeus transformed them into doves, and then into stars, so that him (another beautiful constellation) could not catch them. Still, he chases after them in the sky every night.

In astronomy, it is an open star cluster located in the constellation of Taurus.

*

I remember one of them was Maia the Titaness, mother of Hermes. And another was Dione (not to be confused with Dione the oceanaid daughter of Oceanus the Titan Lord) the nymph, mother of Pelops and Niobe.

Beautiful, you did a lovely job of turning the maidens into the very stars that they represent...it's lovely, simply lovely :nod.

This is so beautiful and once again , you aced Greek myths! I love the stars in their heads and the golden orange hue you used for the color scheme.
They look like they are floating in a nebula as we speak and they look so delicate and beautiful, just as stars are. Wonderful job and I can't wait to see more!
Which one are you going to be doing next?

I'm learning more Greek Mythology! The Pleiades look very...mystical. Galaxy type. Well, because they were made into stars. Tragic but beautiful
