Description

I chose to focus on Squirrelflight, Brambleclaw, and Leafpool for this because they really took the brunt of Hollyleaf’s tale. I mean, Jayfeather and Lionblaze briefly mention in The Forgotten Warrior that cats started whispering about where their loyalties lay, but they were not as attacked by the Clans as the adults were. Squirrelflight and Leafpool lost the respect of their Clanmates; they were often mentioned as ‘out of place’ and abandoned by most of the Clan. Brambleclaw had to deal with not only being lied to by the one cat he trusted most, but the fact that his children weren’t actually his children by blood.
Now, I am also disturbed by the idea that just because Squirrel/Bramble aren’t the birth parents, they aren’t the TRUE parents of Lion, Holly, and Jay. Lion and Jay coming to terms with the idea that their birth parents gave them up is only touched upon later, and it did not get the kind of attention it deserved. But that is a topic for another day.
