Description This character has appeared a grand total of two times in the Wotch continuity, once in a bonus wallpaper and once in a single panel in the comic. In both cases we didn't learn very much about her, not even a name or what time period she lived in. I was the first one to give her a name in a fanart sketch, and Anne told me she was going to adopt that name as canon.
I was quite stoked.

So 闇éĒĻč–Ŧ then? (or 闇éĒĻéĶ™. It's a really pretty name! It also invokes a sense of mystery and coolness, I like it.

Maybe I'll just have to do another drawing of her with the kanji, then.

That would be cool, she is really striking and alluring - so the more pics of her the better

I really like this! She looks mysterious and alluring, which I think is pretty cool and gives the impression of someone who is a very powerful spellcaster.

It's also nice to know she has a name! Can I ask why you've used katakana for her name instead of kanji?

It's just, I would have thought she'd be more likely to use kanji given the time period she seems to come from and katakana is also usually used for non-native Japanese words (though some Japanses people do use katakana for their given names it seems to be a more recent thing and mostly younger people, and family names are, I think, exclusively kanji).

I'm mostly asking this because I'd love to know what characters she writes her name with... I am guessing Yamikaze is dark wind (which my computer says would be written 闇éĒĻ but Kaori I am stuck on because there are quite a few meanings for Kaori and it all depends on how her name is written. I used katakana because I wasn't sure if 'Yamikaze' was a real word in Japanese; perils of not being able to speak/write the language. It -is- supposed to mean "dark wind". And since I used kana for the last name then I figured I'd better be consistent and use it for the first name too. I didn't have a specific meaning in mind for 'Kaori', although "perfume" is pretty appropriate now that I think of it. Scent of a Dark Wind.

There are other background characters who don't have names yet, perhaps more projects will be undertaken.

And yay faves!

A couple years ago I probably would have torn all my hair out trying to do an outfit like that. As it is I'm very thankful for brush tools in Photoshop.

Thanks for the fave!

Yep, I've got an Aiptek Hyperpen 8000U. It's no Wacom Intuos tablet, but so far it's gotten the job done quite well. I use it mostly for coloring and shading; drawing lineart digitally is something I'm not good at yet. (And I'd like to keep my analog skills current.)

Oh WOW! This is awesome! Her expression and position is fabulous! The colors are so intriguing, too! And I wish I had her kimono! ^^!!!! I also love the background and Nihongo! ^o^! This is definitely one of your best yet! It has to be on my faves list, nyan! ^___^

*points at own nose* She has the same name as me! ^_^!

Yay faves!

Getting all those fabric folds drawn was a real challenge. Seems to have worked out pretty well, though. The background started out as a basic fill using one of the "paper" patterns in Photoshop, then I went back over it with a white brush to make it more irregular, and the wood slats were all drawn with the line tool.

And it's amazing how much fun you can have with some of the brush tools in Photoshop when making fabric patterns.

A very nice piece in style and composition, R-Type. I like the way you created the title twice, on the top in roman letters, and on the right in kana and kanji. Kaori herself looks nice, with her somwhat indignant expression matching that of how she's appeared in the canon flashback. However, at times the patterns on her kimono seem a bit over-bearing. This is especially true on her lower half, where the combination of flat patterns and fold lines make it very difficult to have any sense of where her legs are and how they're positioned. Otherwise, this is a great composition.
