Description I meant to do this ages ago. An ice storm this last February where I live.

14 shots converted from RAW and merged in Photoshop.

It was so unbelievably beautiful that day. These pictures were taken at dusk, when the ice had finally stopped.

I for one am looking forward to colder weather. My allergies have about had it with the summer, kthxbye.

Thank you so much

When the trees all wake up maybe I'll go out and do a summer version.

you did a really nice job of putting together all the pictures, it looks like it's just one really long photography ^^

Thank you

Luckily I was able to use the photomerge on my Photoshop Elements. I have another program I use if Elements fails, but it takes so long to use it.

Some of my Florida friends have never even seen snow.

Ice storms are so beautiful but so treacherous.

Thank you!

It's a pretty view to have. Not much right now with no snow, though.

AreteEirene In reply to ScriptorCarelus [2008-10-15 21:20:23 +0000 UTC]

It's maybe 6 inches of snow with about an inch of ice on top.

Wow! Great panoramic!

i always try these buy my camera automatically adjusts exposure so they no longer match when I try to stitch them together

Thank you

Even with converting all the RAW files using the exact same specs you can see variations in my panorama, especially in the sky. I don't have the patience to even attempt to get theme exact. Sigh...

Well it looks way better than the ones that I try XD Though mine aren't raw files, they're just massive JPGs

This is the first one I've made from RAW, actually. I think the same problems arise no matter what.

AreteEirene In reply to KV-Arts [2008-09-29 20:41:24 +0000 UTC]

It actually wasn't that cold that day, hence the ice. It normally has to be just around freezing for the right conditions.

Of course I don't start to think it's truly cold until it gets down below 20.

KV-Arts In reply to AreteEirene [2008-09-29 20:50:54 +0000 UTC]

>< I remember experiencing below 20 in New Jersey. It was 16 degrees or so but the chill factor made it more below zero. The last 2 days of our trip was hit by a cold blast last winter. It wasn't horrible but I am glad I only visit and not live in it. Same with snow. I probably will live somewhere with light snow, but nothing major. No northern US for me!

wow.. is that really all solid ice or will it break when you walk on it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AreteEirene In reply to xian-ated [2008-09-28 15:58:21 +0000 UTC]

It was about 5 or 6 inches of snow with a thin film of ice on top. So yes, you'd step right through. I wouldn't recommend it though.

xian-ated In reply to AreteEirene [2008-09-28 22:19:00 +0000 UTC]

wow. ok i don't think i'd try that any time soon, but it would be cool and horrid at the same time if it were solid ice though! imagine what a huge skating rink that would make!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AreteEirene In reply to xian-ated [2008-09-29 20:43:42 +0000 UTC]

I'd just get out my skates then.

I kept hoping the pond out back wold freeze solid enough to skate on, but it never really did. It was a volatile winter last year.

hehe i wish there was a nice big frozen pond in london but there isn't.

AreteEirene In reply to xian-ated [2008-10-01 17:56:39 +0000 UTC]

It's a bit early for that yet, isn't it? Or does it never get quite cold enough in London? Maybe there's a rink somewhere you can go skating.

it never gets quite cold enough i think.. oh well, if i can find a rink, i hope it has good student rates.. >.< everything in london is sooo expensive!

I could probably do this with the pictures I took. Am not quite sure how. Saw the option in Elements though. This looks so pretty

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AreteEirene In reply to WDWParksGal [2008-09-28 16:00:19 +0000 UTC]

You export them to a folder and then choose Open - New Photomerge in Photoshop. Then if it can stitch them it will; it takes quite a few minutes to process, though. If it won't work I've got a different program where to manually stitch by marking identical points on the pictures that would overlap.

wow. I've never seen snow like that where I am. I mean it snows. it is Pennsylvania after all. but never like that. never that beautiful

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AreteEirene In reply to Aqua-Lily [2008-09-28 16:02:13 +0000 UTC]

We get ice storms sometimes, though not often, thankfully. They're really really dangerous. I'm not sure what exact conditions are necessary, just that the snow melts at one point while falling then freezes again shortly before hitting. It's so gorgeous but makes it impossible to drive, and often results in branches breaking and falling everywhere. It often knocks the power out.

Aww. At least you got a picture of it when it was still there. Makes the picture that much more special.
