Description
Mon-El is a character in DC Comics, originally created by writer Robert Bernstein and artist George Papp. He first appeared in Superboy #89 in 1961.
In the DC Comics universe, Mon-El is a member of the alien race called the Daxamites, which is related to the Kryptonian race that Superman belongs to. Like Superman, Mon-El possesses superhuman strength, speed, durability, and various other abilities. However, he is also vulnerable to lead, which can be deadly to him.
Mon-El's backstory has gone through several revisions over the years, but he is often portrayed as a prince from the planet Daxam who was accidentally exposed to lead and fell into a coma. To save his life, he was placed in the Phantom Zone, where he remained in suspended animation for a thousand years until he was eventually released by the Legion of Super-Heroes.
In the Legion of Super-Heroes comics, Mon-El became a member of the team and developed a close friendship with Superboy, who was also a member at the time. He later became a mentor to the teenage hero, Valor.
Mon-El has appeared in various other DC Comics titles, including as a member of the Justice League and as a supporting character in Superman comics. He has also appeared in other media, including the TV series "Supergirl."
