Description This is my submission for Round 1 of the Fashion Doll contest being held at Different-Art by Arrelline :  Celinda modeling the Silver Studded Blue gown.

We were all given the theme of "Butterflies" and each contestant was given a specific one as inspiration. I got the lovely Silver Studded Blue Butterfly (here's a conglomerated picture showing the top and under sides of the wings.  i2.photobucket.com/albums/y8/A…  I must say, I was very happy when I got this one, as it's one of my favorites and I just LOVE the colors on it. Now, I will fully confess that it crossed my mind to try making actual wings, since I've gotten the hang of making butterfly-like wings for some fairy pieces that I've done. But I ran into the trouble of details. The wings I've made before are all kind of wavy, due to the drag-and-drop pieces that I use to make them, but this butterfly has fairly simple shaped wings, and I couldn't find anything to recreate those smooth, slightly curved edges, short of drag-and-dropping a thousand or more little tiny pieces.  Also, I realized that if I did that it would take so long that I would wind up doing something very simple for the dress.  And the point of this contest is to create fashion based on a theme, not extra costume props, like fairy wings. (Though, I've seen some cases already of contestants doing smaller wings with theirs, and they do look very nice. But, those were in addition to already outstanding dresses. ) Soooooo, I bagged the wing idea and played around with different dress options. And finally settled on this! My whole thought-process behind the dress was finding a way to recreate the beautiful colors and designs on both the front and undersides of the wings, and I think it turned-out pretty nice. I also noticed while searching for more pictures of the butterfly, that they have a dusty-but-shimmery look, so I tried to reproduce that here. The patterning in the lower part of her skirt may have come out more distinct than how the actual wings generally are, but I wanted to show some of the variances of color that the wings can have.  I also had fun making her butterfly hairpin with the rose.  As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated.

What drag and drops do you use to get all those details

Um... a lot. *LOL*
To get that "fluffy-frosty" texture, I used lots of the snowflake shapes on the lightest transparency setting, overlapping each other in various concentrations, depending on what effect I wanted from them.  For those faint lines that make up the pattern on the lower part of her skirt, I used the taller of the "grass-like" shapes (from the first D&D page) also on a lighter setting, and joined them together to form the pattern. I made sure they were on the "topmost" setting, then later, using the "under hair" setting, I used the fuzzy spheres to make coloration changes underneath them. I also used more of the snowflake shapes, also underneath the main design, and in different colors to get some of that tinting. For the overskirt, I got those arched shapes by using the "twig" design from the first D&D menu and I used the flat oval shape (that's made to go under the oval jewel) from the first D&D menu for the gold part of that design. I think I used a combination of a black pearl from the first menu and a black round drop from the second menu for the dot that goes on the gold disk. The butterfly on her bodice is a combination of shapes, but includes the largish V-shape, the kind of bent-grass shape (that's two to the right from the largish V-shape) probably a flat teardrop shape or three... and I don't remember what all else. It took a bit of fenageling. I'm probably forgetting a few overall, since it's been a while since I made it, and, honestly, I was kind of making it up as I went.  I hope this helps some.

Yes it does, thank you. It looks amazing. How long have you been doing dolls and how long did it take you to do this doll?

I've been doing dress-up doll-maker stuff for about 2 to 3 years now, I think. And, I don't remember how long this one took me exactly, but I know it was the better part of a day. I think I started it around 5 or 6 in the evening and was up until about 5 am the next morning getting it finished. Lately, I've often been able to work on a doll, and just leave the page up with my computer on and get back to it later, but at that time it wasn't being too cooperative, so I had to try to get it all done in one sitting.

It's one of the most beautiful and accurate outfits inspired by the certain theme what I've seen so far !
I like how you recreated all the patterns (including the butterfly on the corset) and the "fluffy" texture of thew wings.
And I especially like her hairstyle.

Thank you! Sometimes I get too OCD with trying to recreate something exactly, and sometimes it doesn't turn out right and I get very frustrated, but I was happy with how this turned out overall. And I had a lot of fun with her hair. I've decided that whatever else I wind up doing with her hairstyle, I'm always going to keep those bangs that she started out with, kind of as her trademark. And I figured, with all the curls and braids in the original, it seemed like she could have had a lot of hair, and that a lot of it was just up, so I thought I'd let some of it down for this one.

Oh, I know that  . Sometimes it almost drives me nuts when something doesn't turn out as I'd like it to be...
But you have the right to be glad and proud of yourself here!

As to the hairstyle, I'm glad that you decided to keep her forehead hair (I'd called it so rather than bangs). And also I personally am very fond of any kind of ponytail.

Thank you! This was one of those classic examples of "making it up as I go". *LOL* I was all, "Hmmm... what happens when I do this... and then I this... oh! I can put this on this, and it does this... let's see what happens when I continue the pattern. Ooo! I just made an overskirt thingy! Yey!"
