Description I proudly present to you the first of the Natural Beauty Series "Firestorm"

Spent an intense amount of time on specific planetary details and key aspects of star fields.

Enjoy

*UPDATE* Removed the odd white border And made the nebulae on the bottom left more prominent and realistic.

Fair enough my friend. Thank you so much! And yes i noticed after i posted if that there was no cast shadow on the planet from the rings, so i'm going to have to fix that.

In terms of how a terrestrial planet may have rings: I believe that without the presence of a gas giant in a solar system, external objects such as dust and asteroids would gravitate towards the nearest object such as the largest terrestrial planet. In this image, this planet simply usurped too much matter in which early moons were created and then destroyed because of the limited amount of space around its orbit.

BTW, ignore the part about the tilt of the rings; it felt off, but it happens all the time, with planetary wobbles. They're only actually rather rarely in perfectly alignment with the sun, like a ring-equinox or something.

Indeed. You are one of few educated people that know you're astronomy. A lot of space artists here just make art and know very little about it. We should talk more sometime, perhaps in a chat? I have an official chatroom for our group, its called Valiant Horizon. If you wanna talk more sometime, let me know ahead of time so I can be there to chat.

Well, I try... I've been immersed in astronomical stuff all my life, but I don't hold a degree it the stuff, though (stupid ex-girlfriend does, though!) I'll be kicking around; if you ever want to ask a technical question that might influence a work, feel free... I'd be pleased to be of some help to someone. I tell you, the new star trek movie DESPERATELY needed astronomy advice (sigh.) Not much of a chatter, though

Indeed. I've always been interested in astronomy after I took and Earth & Space science class in high school. After that I took astronomy I in College and passed that with flying colors because I used my space art in my exoplanet presentation project. Last semester I took astronomy II which was a bit more difficult, but i passed with an A again. Next semester I'll be taking Advanced Astronomy which will be awesome.

Most space artists (sadly) don't have a general education in astronomy which can greatly affect the realism of there space art. Such key aspects such as lighting, shadow displacement, or even the composition of piece can be wrong due to conflicting theories.

Not to long ago, i got in an argument with this artists who criticized my piece "In The Beginning" Because he thought it was unrealistic that the rings of the planet should not be affected by the shadow of it nor should the rings place a shadow on the planet. *Face Palm* Bloknayrb and I had to explain how that was possible to the point where he was too frustrated with us and left in a fury. haha

Aye aye; I'm sure there are ways it could happen... our scientists are being surprised all the time. Besides which, a dust-rich system would also explain the visit-to-the-eye sun rays; i.e., a super-thin and maybe temporary solar system atmosphere of a sort. Rings are sorta like weather, too... it's all about when you see them. Right now saturn's rings are most prominent, but they may have been virtually nonexistent a few tens of millions of years ago, and vice versa with Jupiter, for example. They come and go like a photogenic thunderstorm tends to come and go, you know? So I've really very little to quibble about here. These were just tiny details; overall the technique deployed is excellent and observation of realism is among the top percentiles, if I had to guesstimate.

Amazing. My favourite colours too! Like others I love the light rays and the realism. Sometimes it's so tempting to see space as all dark and full of blue

Yes, blue and orange/red are my favorite schemes. Red/orange is like fierce, dangerous, or warm, and blue is rather calm, serene and beautiful
