My two cents here.
It's not the people viewing it that are sending it to the front page, it's all the favorites. Has anyone else noticed that, when browsing by popularity in your own gallery, it sorts by number of faves? I think that's how the popular section of the front page works.
So if people stop faving, then it will be bumped off the front page.

I'm sort of questioning why this is on the front page. I mean, it's not terrible, but it's definitely not front page worthy (in my opinion), in the slightest. Why does something like this, something even the most novice digital artists could replicate in a matter of minutes, on the front page of dA?

Okay, I'm agreeing with you that there are more amazing art that perhaps deserves to be on the front page but that's not something you should be complaining to the artist about. It's not like they put it there on purpose. :\

There's actually a new algorithm in place on Deviantart where certain artists are featured over others regardless of their view-rates or favorites. I only felt the need to bring it up because it's getting a bit ridiculous with the quality of the work on dA's front page. Arkham makes it there quite a bit, but never with the pictures that she really poured her heart and soul into making.
Just the ones with the giant fandoms to love it up.

I agree, there are a lot of work on the front page that are very simple and seem to have no effort. I've seen some of arkham's work on the front page too, but its always the fan art that gets there. It's also a bit unfair to the artists, some people who uploaded something simple never asked to get on the front page, but when they do, a lot of people comment and blame the artist.

Yeah, you've an EXTREMELY popular artist here on dA, it must really suck to have one of your most boring pictures be the 3rd top favorited Deviation this week. My most popular picture took me 10 minutes to make... :'/ Sometimes your best effort and skills don't really matter when there's a fandom I guess.

It's in the Misc category for starters so it automatically has a lower threshold for the FP than things in more competitive categories.
