Description This watercolor painting is based on the Chinese myth, Red Thread of Fate. "According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another. Often, in Japanese culture, it is thought to be tied around the llitle finger" (Wikipedia).

I created this piece during an emotional chapter in my life. I endured mental abuse from a toxic relationship. Because I was young and naive, I thought it was okay. The "Red Thread of Fate" is cut to symbolize it was false judgement to bring us together.
(Mixed media: watercolor, acrylic paint, and prismacolor, 2017)

Hi! I'm from the simplicity of this yet the meaning behind it was what attracted me
First of all I'm so sorry you had to go through the abuse :/ I'm glad you got out of it! I'm glad you chose art as a way to vent out your emotions instead of more harmful ways so thank God
For the piece, I love how relatively simple you kept the hands yet the background is more detailed. The muted reds, greens and blues help set the mood of seriousness and the use of textures adds interest to the overall piece. Also I love how you added specks of white and black for contrast and colour interest! it almost seems like the white specks are shooting stars and the array of colours are meant to be a galaxy
Next, your hand anatomy is quite good !! Hands are hard to master but you're on the right path (I had a hard time with fingers too :,)) The 'missing' puzzle piece suggests that there is something missing in their life, and based on the different orientation/ puzzle pieces it suggests that these two aren't meant to fit each other, which I find it a realy really REALLY good way of portraying it. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Next, the red string could've been more brighter as it is the main focus of the piece, maybe a small glowing effect to make it stand out
Unless the idea was to make it dull to show that there's no more relation between the two people
Another small thing is the scissors can be hard to notice at first glance
There's not much to not like about this piece, its really meaningful and beautiful! great job :3

I love romantic pieces with stories behind them. Being able to have a constructive outlet for your emotions is so very healthy

The image is so well done too - I feel like I knew the story behind it before I even read the description. The only thing I might change, is the puzzle shape on one of the wrists - they are too similar to each other, when they should be completely different. Also, you could even go a step further and paint fingernails on one of the hands to make it clear this is a boy/girl relationship.

I'm sorry for the pain you went through, but is sounds like you've really grown from this experience. Every relationship gives us something to learn going forward

Take care, and keep making art that reflects yourself - it's always so much more interesting when we get a glimpse into the artist's heart.

Anyone should be free to control their own destiny, as opposed to having it be bound by fate.

I like the background; it's lively. However, I feel the hands are quite falt due to a lack of variation in color and shadows to help create shape. Furthermore, the outlines don't help; they makes the hands appear crude and displaced with the whole piece.

I appreciate the feedback. This was my first time drawing hands. I wasn't sure how to go about shading them but I will definitely look up some tutorials!

While the general anatomy of the hands is great, I have to agree that they're rather out-of-place compared to the details of the piece.

Thank you for your feedback! I will practice shading hands and looking up some tutorials. This was my first go at drawing hands(I just have never shaded them before so I left it blank)
