Another picture of my big rooster since he's gotten some attention with the Ripley's Believe it or Not "Unusual Art" contest.

He's gorgeous! What did you use to get the thin feathery look of the tail?

Thank you! The "thin" parts of the tail are the spike arms of the devil claw seed pod (pictured below.) I grew a special breed of the pod that had 5-7 inches long "claws", which were used for the tail. They naturally grow with the claws, so for most of the rooster's body I had to cut the arms off.

Patience for sure! Planning... actually not as much! After I assembled the main shape from gourds, I kinda winged the application of the seed pods. They all grow in different shapes & sizes so it almost becomes like a puzzle. Test fitting each pod, seeing if it works, trying another. It kinda decides how it makes itself in that way, I just add em together!
