Who said a dream come true was a good thing?This is an illustration for my upcoming NaNoWriMo novel. I'm still debating over the name, but I'm leaning towards Turning Point, which is a phrase used to describe the point at which a dream becomes a nightmare. It's based on a dream of my own that I had a while ago, and you could possibly see it as Hunger Games meets Inception, a tournament of the mind. It's really just going to be a chance for me to describe my conception of dreams in an intense, narrative way.
I can't wait until November!This picture is taking me so long to do, and it's been hard to get it looking right. I mostly like how it's coming (though it's nowhere near finished--and this is only a small chunk of the actual picture), so I wanted to share a WIP.

You do NaNoWriMo?? Hey, so do I! That's great. I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one planning for this November already. Most of my friends think I'm jumping the gun.
Incomplete and partial it may be, but this picture is beautiful already, and so intense. I really like the way you did the glowing on her arms and shield/staff. The perspective is excellent as well. The monster is terrifying... in a good way!

I did NaNo for the first time last year, and I made the mistake of writing with an actual pen and paper. I only made it halfway... but I have learned my lesson. My story will never live to see the light of the internet. Mostly because it's not finished.
Plot holes are the worst! And in my case, they're big enough to fall INTO not just stumble over (most of the time)

That's the plan! It's always nice to have more friends doing it, if only to be able to support each other. Your story idea definitely sounds interesting, too!

Thanks! And yes, I haven't added the blue stuff's highlights at all. And the creature is actually eyeless; those are flame glands getting ready to discharge. It's hard to see, and looking at it now they do remind me of eyes. :/ But thank you, blood is always a challenge for me.

Mmm, I agree. A creature's eyes betray so much emotion and personality; the more you simplify them, or take them away entirely, the more of a monster it becomes.

Thank you! Urk, yes, NaNo should really pick a new month...But there's something about the craziness of November that's attractive to the author in me. You just can't afford a writer's block!

That creature is gross-- in a good way. You dreamed about that?! I love how much weight it appears to have. And "Hunger Games/Inception" sounds like a pretty awesome idea for NaNo to me.

Thanks much! Yup, I tried to keep the design as true to the actual dream as I could, and that's pretty much what it looked like (I think it was a boring grayish color in the dream).
