It looks like a choice. But this is deceptive. The young lady looks at the hourglass and she knows the time is finite. Life is finite and that's a good thing.

The last is definitely true. I think a lot of things would lose meaning if everyone would live forever. Sounds horrible to me. Our mortality is what gives our life sense, without darkness there is no light.
