---------------

The idea of these structures came to my mind when reading about the vast amount of mineral resources in the bottom of the ocean. I thought that, in order to have easy access to those resources, this kind of structure could perhaps be more practical than completely underwater structures, which is what we typically see in movies and books. In my structures, it's much easier to get in and out, for example. No need to take a submarine to go to work, just fly into the city.

People would actually have the benefits of living underwater with the benefits of direct contact with the atmosphere and sunlight. So, why not have a complete mining city in this way? Or even a multitude of them?

(Note: I started this image many weeks ago, but then interrupted it to make some other images. I'm always jumping from unfinished piece to unfinished piece... This one arthurblue.deviantart.com/art/… was one of them. I used here the same basic concept at a much smaller scale.)

My main images with colonies:
The Colony:

Caves of Tau Ceti:

Home away from home:

Shores of Orion:

This image is also another take on my concept of micro-worlds, a concept on which I based several images:
Micro-world of Soul-Sphere:

Micro-world of Thales:

Rendered in Vue, as always.

Love the concept, I get this image at the bottom of the mine opening up into a cavernous structure, almost like elements of a geofront.

Yes, yes Arthur, the sun, more sun and water, and cities. So big, modern and spacious. We need them, not the dammit concrete boxes like one i'm living in. This is the dream as i said for myself a million times before when was unregistered user.

Wauw, i just found you this moment, and your work is very impressive i must say! So lifelike ^^

In your structures, wouldt it be wise to have som way of accessing the water surface from the entrance, so ships etc. could enter? Some sort of harbor maybe (:

I would like to know how you make this masterpieces! I guess there is some real life photo manipulation in them? Anyways, keep up the good work, im going to follow you for a while (;

ArthurBlue In reply to ClintFlindt [2013-11-27 17:18:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
Most of the transportation is done by air (and aerial ships enter by the main opening, directly to the inside) but there is also an entrance by sea. It's not visible on the image because it's in that corridor between buildings (to be protected from the wind).
All my images are done without any photo manipulation at all. All my images are renderings from virtual 3D worlds, built inside Vue (www.e-onsoftware.com).

one of the things I love about science-fiction is the conceptual leaps our minds are allowed when it comes to visualizing the future.

Β

and this really is just that:Β  we don't have to think about the advances in materials sciences that would enable structural assemblies to withstand the pressure extremes that these would have to endure daily along with the added stresses brought on by weather and time.Β  we just have to look and think "that would be pretty damn cool!"

Β

and it is.

Ahhhh!!! THis is soooo cool!!!! 8D

It would have to be pretty flexible to deal with ocean current and tides... but if giant kelp can do it... why can't we >w<

This should so Happen!! ^w^
